Hey folks, has anyone ever had experience with this model stick welder?  It AC only or is it AC and DC?  (The faceplate show AC)I'm just wondering what your experience has been and if anyone can tell me a little more about it.Onan engine with Marvel-Schebler Carb  Looks like about year model 1965 or so.  Please correct me if I am wrong. From my limited welding experience it seems to weld just fine with Lincoln 7018AC 3/32 and 1/8 rods. That's not the original Gas tank.  I had to replace it with this plastic one.

Reply:Sure looks like a miller Roughneck welder/generator to me. It has the same chassis as an older Miller roughneck or older Bluestar. Looks to be AC weld current only.I don't think that fuel tank is original to the machine.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:Yeah, I would say its ac only.  Looks very much like the early Miller AEA 200 which had the amp changing taps as this one has.  I had the AEA 200 at one time and regret parting with it.  If you look under the hinged panel on the side where the battery sits, there probably is a "knife blade" switch to change the output from welding power to generator power.  Good luck with the machine.Last edited by smawgmaw; 10-27-2014 at 10:59 AM.A few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter   Victor O/A
Reply:SMAW, you are correct, it does have one of those knife switches to change it from welding to generator. Also, here is a photo of beads I ran of Lincoln 7018AC 1/8 on some scrap tubing.  I think I ran it on the 100/200 setting and about 80 on current control. Is the current control voltage?  How do I determine if it's on 100 or 200 amps (there are no other controls or switches)?

Reply:Gravel, heck NO!  I just did not want you to see the rest of the sample I welded...here.
Reply:In pic #2 of your original post, you see the current control knob in the upper right of the face?  Use that knob to turn up/down the "heat" to fine tune the output of the range jack you have plugged your lead into.  It will not give an exact output but a percentage of the range you have selected.A few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter   Victor O/A

Reply:SMAW...the welds...what about the welds...jeez, what's it take to get some critiques around here!!!?(Here it comes)
Reply:...And how do I know if I'm using the lower amps or higher amps XX/XXX listed on the jacks themselves?

Reply:Ok, that make sense to me.  I'm not a welder either...just a hobby I practice at for me.Thanks much!
Reply:This explains about the same thing found on the Miller BobCat, except in place of the tapped receptacles you have for course adjustment the Bob Cat has a switch, and fine adjust is the same as your rotary dial switch. Attached ImagesBobcat settings.pdf (74.4 KB, 14 views)
Reply:Considering that you are welding in the crevice between 2 pieces of pipe, not bad.Better way to get a good critique is to start on on plate in flat position. Also, the first pics were too blurry to tell what was going on.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:Bistineau, perfect!  The bobcat manual page13 (last page) explains it to me very well.  Thank you!Gravel, scrap pieces of pipe I cut from junk behind my shop.  I also welded with no prep at all.  I was testing the welder to see if it even would strike an arc.  I was pleasantly surprised.  I think it's gonna' be ok for remote welding on farm and other locations where power is not accessible.Gents, thanks much for your input!
Reply:I have looked around on the net for an owners manual for your machine and no luck.  Since it appears very close to an AEA 200 from Miller, you can go to here:  http://www.millerwelds.com/service/l...&submit=Search and choose "Locate your manual by model name" at the bottom.  Next page choose:  AEA-200LE, next page will give you several pdfs, 3rd from bottom will not be exact but should be fairly close to what you have  "HE738715 through HE788546".Edit: the link actually shows the pdfs I was talking about.  You may not have to do any searching at all.  If you see the pdfs listed, choose the one with the serial numbers mentioned above.  Good luck!Last edited by smawgmaw; 10-27-2014 at 02:57 PM.Reason: add infoA few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter   Victor O/A
Reply:SMAW, incredible!  I'm confident the three older versions listed on your link are the exact same welder with a different name!  Now I have a manual.Thank you!
Reply:No problem!  I wish you the best with the machine.  Let us know how its doing every now and then.A few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter   Victor O/A
