ultra shield 308L question. 6g welding test with stainless dual shield

hey everyone. i am super duper green to weldingweb. i did a lil post in the intro form but and not that great at talking about my self. so happy halloween.i am doing a weld test for work on monday. 6g 6" sch 40 stainless pipe. open root with .045 308L Lincoln ultracore wire. does anyone have any experience with this wire? looking for some help with settings, amperage, wire speed? tried it for a mintue today, and was running about 23 amps.and maybe angle of travel? how do you point the wire when doing a open root and how do you point the wire when doing a cap?do you change angles a lot when coming up from the bottom?thank you all so much!!! its great to be a part of this site, finally.

Reply:Passed my test tonight with the help of a layed back cwi. But it looked good and bunt up nice. Root. 260imp and 21.5 volts on machineCovers. 300imp ant 23.5 volts.Root. Bottow draged. Shot the wire in the key hole a little. Sides i pushed a lite with trying to keep a key hole.  And top i draged a little but closer to 90*Covers pusshed with a little whip (stringer passes)Last edited by donexdeal; 11-04-2014 at 01:25 AM.
