After adding onto my garage, I was needing to build an RV gate for the side of the house.  Well, after building it and hanging it up, I had one problem.  The driveway sloped down away from the house.  Since this gate weighs a ton, I needed something that would support the weight and move with the slope of the driveway.       Here is what I came up with.  Basically, it's a standard wheel setup with a mountain bike shock and a four link suspension like on a race car.  It works perfectly, and I take a lot of crap about it.  But it works, and that's all I care about.Enjoy,-Greg Attached Images---No good deed goes unpunished---
Reply:looks beefy. i like it.
Reply:I don't see any reason you should take any crap about that.  It's a good design to a common problem.  I like the solution...the suspension linkage for it is well thought out as well.--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow

Reply:Your roll center is all out of whack and it's got some serious squat problems. That's awesome. Why would anyone give you crap for that...I think it's bitchen.http://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories
Reply:Very nice!!!It even has a 4 link monoshock  suspension!!Way cool...Nice overhead crane also.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:WOW! Now that is an A+ solution. Don't take crap about that."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:Thank you all for looking.  Yes, it took some time to figure out the solution but it works so good and rolls very nicely.  I did spend some time on the roll center for it's anti-squat situation but found that this worked the best.  LOL...     Anyways, if you ever find  yourself in the same situation, just go to your local bike shop and ask for a blown out shock.  They only charged me $10 for that, and since I didn't care about the dampening, I played with the spring rate and came up with a 400lb spring which worked perfectly.I'll post some more projects as time goes on.---No good deed goes unpunished---

Reply:A four-link, complete with tie rod ends,  with a monoshock for a driveway gate?Ohh, yeah.  Have to finish welding it up, then polish it up.  Maybe then top it all of with clear powdercoat, for just the right bling factor.  Because chrome-plating the whole thing would just be tooo over the top.  Is one fastener set on the links 'backwards' from the rest?  It looks like SHCS and nuts, with the cap screws heads facing 'out' and the nuts on the inboard side, except Pic #4 looks like the upper right link-to-upright-plate attachment has the nut outboard.  Tsk, tsk, tsk.  All Grade 8 hardware or better, I suppose.  Did you implement Lot-tracability on the fasteners in the build record log?  Seriously, that's pretty cool.  How much suspension travel does it run through on the driveway and how much travel is there in the suspension overall?  The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...

Reply:The pictures of the unfinished suspension were just some hardware that I had laying around to mock it all up.  I eventually put on the proper length bolts and lock nuts on for the final assembly.    As for the stroke of the shock? I looks like 2 1/2" of stroke and it's doesn't use it all from open to close.  I only had to put a little load on the spring to set the height.  I put it on there to keep the load off of the hinges, but even without the suspension set up it still does not sag.I did think about chrome, but I thought that would be to over the top! ha ha...    I was thinking about making some of these for people who wanted the same set up.  But alomst everyone would be a one off type, due to the drop of the ground.  I'm sure that I could come up with a longer travel suspension or even a shock linkage like on a dirt bike rear suspension for that matter. Reply:Thanks to all of you who voted for my project.  Is there just one winner for this?  I'm a little confused by the website on how it all works.  Is there somewhere to show the voting? or is it done at the end by Miller?  This is my first year of putting something in, so forgive me for all of the questions.  I just never thought that something I did would ever get this far.      I do apprecaite all of the positive comments though, it makes me feel pretty good.---No good deed goes unpunished---
Reply:There is one winner in each of the three "levels" and all three will get their choice of: a Millermatic 211 Auto-Set with MVP MIG welder, a Diversion 180 TIG welder or a Spectrum 375 X-TREME™ Plasma cutter.  You will know by Sept 23rd.Miller Dynasty 200 DXBuildPro TMA52238 (38" x 22")Miller MP-10 & Jackson Nexgen EQC20 Ton Press & Swag HD Press Brake

Reply:so I went to the MIller site and the contest must be over.  Does anyone know when they release the votes to see if you won or not?     I was just so excited to even be put in and get that far.  Any insiders out there?  ha ha...---No good deed goes unpunished---
Reply:Well guys/ gals, thank you very much for all of your votes!  I did win!!!!!     I can't even thank all of you who voted enough for my project.  This week has been really bad for me until today, when I got the phone call this morning it was like everything that had happened over the last two days didn't matter anylonger.      She said that there were over 165,000 votes collectively for all of the groups.  That just goes to show you how many people look at their website.     Miller makes a great product, and I am very proud to be part of this.  I do happen to have all Miller line up in my garage and that will be a nice addition to my garage.      Again, thank you all for helping me win.  I couldn't of done it without all of you.Regards,   Greg---No good deed goes unpunished---

Reply:I'll make sure all of you get your checks, as long as you give me your 1099 forms.  ha ha    I'm curious to try out the Diversion on aluminum, it looks like a great piece of equipment even though I already have the syncrowave 250dx.  I do like the 120V feature, so I can take it with me to do other things as long as they are small.      I just can't thank everyone enough for this.  I never win anything, I'm the guy who get's a fortune cookie with nothing inside.  Do something nice for someone and get S**T on for doing it for free.    Maybe my luck is changing?---No good deed goes unpunished---
