I need to lower the rear catch of the magazine (see red arrow in photo). The magazine and catch are made out of steel. The catch only needs to be lowered about 1/16" or so.I have experience with soft soldering, brazing, and silver soldering. I am thinking about cutting the rear catch off and silver soldering it back on in its new position.I would appreciate any guidance or ideas before I get started. Thanks.

Reply:Would you instead be able to just file it down 1/16" ? Might save you a lot of trouble.

Reply:Originally Posted by tbryanhGood guess. Its a .223 mag for a Galil AK rifle. I want to use it in a Saiga AK rifle.
Reply:I have thought of building it up. The underside would have to be built up and then the top ground down. I am thinking this is alot of work.Instead, I think cutting the part off and relocating it might be easier. I colored the part red that I am thinking of cutting off. See the new photo with this post. Thanks.

Reply:I was thinking of silver soldering the piece back on. Would this be a good idea, or does it need to be TIG'd?
Reply:I think filing the tab on the mag rather than relocating it would make it too thin.
Reply:I have a smal quantity of mags I want to modify.

Reply:I want steel mags. None exist other than these. so I want to modify these.
Reply:if you file down your mag catch on the saiga a lil, that should take care of it w/o messing w/ the mag.    You still may have a feeding issue going into the chamber, unless your modifying your saiga, cuz the front of the saiga mag is higher, and the front of the ak mag is lower
Reply:Go to weaponsguild.comA HUGE amount of info there. Now I lay me down to sleep, by the bed a Colt I do keep.Should I wake and find you inside, a coroner van is your next ride.
