I'm in the market for a new bandsaw, was wondering what you guys thought. i'm looking at a Jet 414500K...i can get it brand new for $1189. I know thats a pretty good deal for that saw, but was wondering if anyone had any better suggestions. i'm primarily going to be cutting thinner wall tubing for headers, turbo kits, exhaust, etc...plus probably a few pieces of sheetmetal here and there. nothing too heavy, but i want a saw that will last.
Reply:i have this saw, after having the same one at my full time job for more years than i have been there i bought it last time enco had a 20% off plus it was free shipping. i think i paid $749 shipped for it, i absolutely love it. get a gallon of the syn-kool and it will last you for a very long period of time as you only need to add water when it evaporates. it comes with a test blade that i have yet to change after making 6 "large" fixtures for Subaru exhausthttp://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?P...&PARTPG=INLMK3
Reply:Have you looked for a used do-all or another vintage american saw?I did a quick ebay search, found some good candidates: http://www.ebay.com/sch/Manufacturin...500&_udhi=1500Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools
Reply:I’m a big Trajan fan, but Jet makes a fine saw. Don’t know if anyone can beat that price. Take a look at  www.utilitybandsaw.com  for comparisons.
Reply:i'm not really looking to spend $3,000 on a saw, but those Trajans look nice. Maybe i should have specified i'm looking for a vertical bandsaw, too.
Reply:I don't have any experience with the Jet brand saws but I have used other 14" saws and I own a Powermatic 143.I bought the Powermatic a little over a year ago and it is the best 14" saw that I have used. It's built like a tank and is definitely not light. I built a rolling base for it and the saw is stout enough that I rarely have to lock the casters when cutting. For comparison the Jet weighs 280lbs....the Powermatic weighs a little over 400.The gearbox is large and has high/low settings that are easily changed with the flip of a lever. Speed changes are done by loosening another lever and moving the belt on step pulleys.I have cut 2" thick aluminum to 1.5"x.75" cold rolled bar stock to 22ga SS sheet on it. Like you my space is a premium and the 143 seems to be just about the best saw for the money in this class of bandsaws and I would be lost without this one. You'll have to find one used as they don't make the metal version anymore. I paid $1300 for mine and there are a few on Ebay right now for around that price which is almost exactly the same price as the Jet.Hope that helps, - Paulhttp://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories
Reply:Here's a link to the base I built for this saw and another that I had previously.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=101511http://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories
Reply:That Powermatic looks like a viable option as well. I was sold on the Jet because i've used Jet lathes and milling machines in the past and they seemed ok....plus the good deal i was offered on one made it tempting as well. I'm just not sure what other "good" saws are out there for under ~$1500.
Reply:I use a Grizzly and a Enco they both have many miles on them and they still cut straight!!
Reply:That Enco looks exactly like my Jet : http://www.southern-tool.com/store/v...g_bandsaws.phpI have been extremely happy with that saw.  It will go vertical, but I never seem to mess with it.  The saw cuts straight.  I don't think you can go wrong with the Enco or Jet version if it the size is right.
Reply:Found a deal on craigslist i couldn't pass up....a Grizzly G0621X for $1000. it's brand new, only cut small tubing three or four times and came with 3 new blades. There isn't a scratch on it and its variable speed and virtually silent when running, unless you're cutting of course. we'll see how it works out....anybody think that was a stupid buy? or did i do alright?
Reply:Here's a pic:
Reply:You saved $400 over a new one from the factory, paid no tax or shipping, and didnt have to wait for it.  I'd say you did OK.HF Dual Mig 151 with Bluewelders and Galaxieman's modsHF Digital Plasma TorchHF Blue Flames Hood70's era Craftsman 230 stick welderVictor 100 OA
Reply:lol...i knew i did ok price-wise...just wondered if anybody had heard any horrible reviews about this saw..i searched beforehand, but i never seem to find the negative feedback until after the purchase, then the critics come out of the woodwork...but it seems like a great piece to me.
Reply:I visited the site you mentioned, bosox. I have noticed that most people doesn’t seem to like Marvel band saws. Why is that so?
Reply:I like Marvel, but only have experience with a heavy duty unit.  Basically, this was the saw, but the one I used didn't have the NC portion set up - http://www.sawing.com/touchtech60.html  It was a killer machine.  I'd run any of their other saws based on my experience with it.-AaronJet 17.5" Drill Press1942 South Bend 16x84 Lathe1980s Miller 320A / BP --- 2013 Power Mig 2562012 Jet 7x12 Horizontal BandsawVictor O/A Setup
Reply:It looks like a “monster” Marvel saw! Nice. But I guess I just have to stick with this -  http://trajansaw.com/view/trajan-1319 . Just my personal favorite.
