Anyone familiar with these 83,000 psi electrodes ?  Feedback ?#BD-1000, 83, 000 psi, 5lbhttp://www.zoro.com/westward-welding...05/i/G8735203/or#10607 True blue welding electrode 5/64 5lbhttps://shop.tifco.com/Catalog/searc...blue+electrode
Reply:Sorry, I haven't heard of either. What are you wanting to weld with a 5/64th electrode?"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:I use a 110 volt, 80 amp, dc inverter and the best size rod for this machine (IMHO) is 5/64.  1/16 is too flimsy for me and 3/32 seems to burn too cold or just won't burn at all for some rod types. So, I would be doing basically all my welding with this size rod.  The explanation from one of the vendors is that this rod type will replace 6010,6011,6013,7014,7018.  It also apparently needs no oven to protect it.  Since all these rod types are not available in 5/64, I am looking at this high strength rod as a replacement.  Just hoping to learn if it comes close to the advertisement claims.
Reply:one rod to replace 6010,6011,6013,7014 and 7018? and no oven needed? does it core an apple too?i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:What do you really need an 80K rod for when at best you are welding sheet metal?.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:i believe that the higher psi will be more prone to cracking out, the harder the steel the more brittle. i would lean towards the 6013 for an all around rod. i didn't see any info on the rods you mention other than the psi, what is the four digit classification 8018?   i've used 9018 rod and it welded similar to 7018 but in small test welds i felt that it was too hard, rather than bending with the parent matel it was a hard spot that focused possible stress on the weld seem. but maybe it was all in my head

Reply:Seems to be a "maintenance" rod similar to a Certanium 701 and the likes.   Nothing wrong with that, but it would never replace a xx18 for structural steel welding.    I see no harm in using these rods for general around-the-house welding, so the big question is whether or not you like them!    I say buy them, give em a go.
