Building parts for new project

So I have decided to use a rear shock from a mountain bike and build a 4 link suspension for my gate caster, some will say its over kill and going way to far but the tools are in the shop and I have the materials already do why not! Reply:Shouldn't the gates hinges and post keep the gate entirely in the air as it swings open?
