hi, so i'm finally building my table and had to knock off some rust and scale (and a very little bit of oil). anyway, i used a flap disk to do this and it got loaded up pretty quick (36 grit). i also used it to knock off the burrs when i had made cuts and that tore my disks up pretty quick. i've always done this with with my 3" matco die grinder and sanding disks and NEVER had a problem. whats up now?
Reply:Inferior quality material used on the flap disc. HF stuff does have it's limits.Lincoln SA200's... at least 15 - 20. They come and go. Growing partial to the "Short Hoods" in my old age. Last count on Short Hoods was 13 in possession.
Reply:it was actually dewalt stuff i got at lowes.

Reply:What size grinder are you using? Most mill scale will be too much for a flap disc, at least if you're trying to remove large sections of it. If it was the same disc when you were trying to clean up the cuts, it might already have been damaged enough that it came apart. If there was enough oil to soak any part of the pad, that might explain it. You might also have gotten a bad disc.Last edited by Jack Olsen; 07-20-2012 at 02:21 PM.Jack OlsenMy garage website
Reply:i'm using a 4 1/2" grinder. what i don't get is why the disk wore down so fast when i was grinding the burs. i wasn't pressing hard or going against the edge of the steel. |
