Mag Drills

Need opinion, I'm getting a Mag Drill and have the choice of the drill motor having either a MT3 or a chuck, I know I can get a MT3 chuck but which would be more benificial. Presently looking at the Milwaukee Mag Drill, but have choice of chuck or MT3,ThanksMiller 252 Mig w/Spool GunMiller Dynasty 350 TigMiller 225 AC-DC StickMiller Spectrum 875 PlasmaOxy/Acet.
Reply:I use a Milwaukee mag with chuck.  It' very useful.  I use it on my welding table instead of a drill press.  I drill and tap holes in the table (plate of 1/2 steel)  for threaded visegrip clamps for production projects.  One thing though, you need thick steel for it to grab good.  It would slip if you were trying to drill 1/8" for example.  I have used it on 3/16 with mild pressure. For larger holes, I use the hole hawg bits.

Reply:missfire  -  Don't buy anything that won't accept a standard 1/2" drill chuck and an arbor for roto-broaches, also known as annular cutters.   Opus
Reply:If your looking to buy a good mag drill I would buy a hougen mag drill.  I currently have 3 mag drills, one is an evolution brand, good English made drill (new ones are made in china) and two hougens one is the 90 degree low clearance version and the other is the standard version.  They all have been used and abused.  The hougens kick ***. I did have a Milwaukee mag drill before it grew legs on a job site.  But I wouldn't buy another one. Reply:I've got the Morse Taper and a MT chuck that fits my Milwaukee Mag drill.No complaints.Lincoln SA200's... at least 15 - 20. They come and go. Growing partial to the "Short Hoods" in my old age. Last count on Short Hoods was 13 in possession.
