So I was calling around to get my 80 CF Argon tank exchanged.Airgas: $77 + random fees = $89 + taxLocal Welding Shop: $35 + tax$35 seems like a really good deal, almost too good of a deal. What are you guys paying for Argon? This is in the SF Bay Area
Reply:Airgas is such a ripoff. My local Airgas told me that it is would cost between $35 and $70 to fill an Acetylene B bottle. The much smaller 4 store LWS charges $35 + tax to fill an 80 CF bottle of Argon. To buy a filled 80 CF cylinder is $235.
Reply:I filled a 244 with Argon a couple weeks ago and paid less than $30 in the Houston area.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:Airgas sucks. But sometimes the people at the counter can be helpful. Tell them you want a better price, you might be surprised what they can do.Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools
Reply:LWS 122c/f tank was filled /exchanged for $29.00 today.....
Reply:$35 seemed reasonable to me, not like the airgas price, plus the place is 2 minutes from my house, diesel is $4.40 around here so would rather not drive around too much!

Reply:$109 today,Matheson in Columbus, Ohio. Delille was $79. Last fill from Matheson they took my private owner tank and switched it for a Company owned neck ring. Did not catch it till I got home. Took 2 years to use the tank up, took all relevant paperwork with Me today and they made it right to My surprise. This was a 336 CF.

Just got a TIG welder so Im looking to buy at least an 80, if not a 125 cf bottle. My lws only sells 80cf bottles and they are $299 plus tax to buy, he also said he wont fill anything above 80 for insurance reasons. Tractor supply quoted me $454 out the door for a 125 bottle of argon. Tech air quoted me $87 a year to rent plus I think $67 to fill. Since im just a hobby welder I dont want to rent because its a waste for me. I found a place called weld fabulous on amazon that sells tanks for about $365 shipped which is a good deal for the area Im in. Anyone ever dealt with them?

Reply:The problem is some places won't fill a tank you purchase from them. One of the places I go the lifetime lease is $175 for an 80cf and $225 for a 150cf.Insurance reasons not to fill a large tank? Reply:Just to sponsor a bit of speculation on the collusion of some LWS on the prices of commodity gases, I purchased TWO full 300 c.f. bottles, outright, one filled with C25 mix and the other 100% argon, for $300 this week.FULL.  2400 PSI verified and my back is still reminding me why 300s are a bad idea for a home shop. Now, granted, this was via a craigslist transaction, but she had many, many more (100s).  At that price, I didn't even suggest a negotiation - just paid her outright.  She said her ad had been flagged many times after she was contacted by a few different LWS (names witheld, but this thread contains one) asking her not to sell bottles that cheap because their customers were asking why they couldn't provide them at that cost.  She said it wasn't her problem, and that's when the ads began getting flagged.Make no mistake, these gasses are not like Helium, they're abundant and extremely inexpensive.  There's no justifiable reason for the mark-up other than simple greed.
Reply:100% agreed its always greed by the bigger corporate entities. Here a LWS attempts to sell a 3' SS tig filler for $4 each yes $4 and $30 for 10 standard .035 mig ctips. A 83cuft tank outright is 245$ and $86 to fill. I know Canada is the land of over priced EVERYTHING but I'd happily take USA's "high" prices any day.  I am seriously looking into a USA tank lease on a few bottles and fill them over there as I am 45mins from the border.
Reply:40 cu ft Ar tank exchanged $38 (tax, haz mat fee) last week.  Ran through the small bottle pretty fast learning, so I bought a 154 Cu ft tank for $255, Ar cost $63 today (tax, haz mat fee).

Reply:Dear crap wr in Canada get screwed at every turn. I'd say 95% of Americans would have a heart attack at the sight of nearly all of our pricing from A to Z. Hell at least diesel is only 4.46$ gal today. My Internet is still 120$ for 15mbit speed and 200gb bw though. If i was healthy and did not need a hand full of pills multiple times a day believe me I would be a proud American right now but i require the "free" health care they we all pay for trough the nose for in crazy taxes and prices.  Hey  anyone know a air liquide place in detroit or lower Michigan as i am only 40 minutes from border...
