I don't know if I have my settings generating too much spatter or if its normal to need to clean your nozzle pretty often. Maybe every 20 beads I run I have to clean it. (talking tube welding not 10' pieces)Sometimes its on their pretty thick I grab a round file and scrape it in there a couple times and everything falls right out.www.FirehouseFabricators.comZachLincoln 210mpLincoln SW200Hypertherm Powermax 45xp2x4 CNC Plasma Table.

Reply:On my Miller I clamp a 1/2" drill bit in the vise, run it in and give it a twist. Mig pliers will do it too.                                                         MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:spatter and nozzle cleaning are part of the process. how often is a tricky question with lots of variables like shielding gas, voltage, wire speed and maybe even material. it's been many years since i was a production mig welder but as i recall there's no getting away from it if you want quality welds.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:We seem to clean the short nozzles on our Hobart 210 more then the old Miller SCP200C with long nozzles when running the same job/wire. Still don't know how that works?????If you don't like the nozzle dip, try spraying some WeldKeen (sp?) in the nozzle. You mix it up with water and it is less toxic than the other stuff but seems to work well for us on stainless.Sent from my GT-P3113 using TapatalkTOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:You can also spray it with anti-spatter. It helps some.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.

I spray inside the cup when it is off, and when on a quick layer directly into the gun. So my idio---erm I mean my highly trained technicians kept inverting the nozzle to clear the tip and killed off the propellent, as well half a can of spray. So I take issue with that.  We don't do that anymore and it works just fine every time. Good stuff indeed. Also on the plasma torch shields.

Reply:BrooklynBravestI take a different approach than most to nozzle hygiene.I have a Miller D60 Dual feeder on a XMT 300.I run .024 and .030 Hard Wire in one gun, and .035 and .045Dual Shield in the other - without spatter spray.I have had a 12oz. can of Jokisch LB-100W for over 15 years, it's 1/3 full, and still has pressure.  It is only used for initial coating of new contact tips and nozzles. You can ‘season’ a tip and nozzle just like a cast-iron kettle, and they will last for years.Easy as changing an inside dual:begin with a new contact tip & nozzle – spray both – then:carefully run stringers until the gun is hot, immerse in Mig Dip, hang the gun so it drains and cools until the Dip congeals, repeat the: weld to heat, dip, hang, cool cycle several times. The exercise is to heat the gun, not actually weld, so use clean metal, and angle the gun to optimize gas coverage. Also key to longevity: is the ongoing treatment of the gun, the cleansing mode of the nozzle, and a tight insulator.Great care should be taken not to mar the OEM finish of the nozzle.  Any nick or abrasion is a foot-hold for spatter to stick.  I only tap the nozzle at it base, and I use a chop-stick to swab the inside. With patience and technique - nozzle frustration is manageable.Opus
Reply:I dunno know, when it's dirty and starts cross arcing? Mig gel, slap it on the table????Depending on your work, rust, grease, human blood, it all depends. Look down at the noz every so often. You'll think it's you when all you need to do is run a rat tail thru it.Arcon Workhorse 300MSPowcon 400SMTPowcon SM400 x 2Powcon SM3001968 SA200 Redface1978 SA250 DieselMiller Super 32P FeederPre 1927 American 14" High Duty LatheK&T Milwaukee 2H Horizontal MillBryan
Reply:I weld 8 -9 hours a day and I clean out my nozzle at least 5-7 times a day and pinch off the spatter on the contact tip as well.
Reply:I'm a hobby welder, for me I spray a little cooking spray on a rag and rub the outside of the nozzle down, then pull it thru and twist through the nozzle, then rub the tip. the spatter usually falls out in a ring when I thump the nozzle. Seems like it last for 2 or 3 pounds of wire.Thermal Arc 210 - Tweco 211I - Cutmaster 52

Reply:I use a needle nose pliers. Take the nozzle off, put the pliers with one jaw inside and one outside, Lightly pinch and twist the nozzle around a few times. Pinch the smeg off of the tip then run a couple inches of wire with the pliers. Pinch the wire with the pliers and crank it around like you are starting a Model T Ford. Done. Two turn tables and a microphone.
Reply:For cleaning, a straight pick works good too. https://www.google.com/search?q=stra...g&ved=0CGIQsAQ
Reply:I've had one of these for a little over a year now and find it useful.  I mostly use my Welpers to keep up with the stuff that builds up around the rim but this tool works good for getting up in there a little deeper.   I fully agree with OPUS about taking care not to rough up the surfaces because it gives the spatter more of a toe hold to hang on there tight and be more of a PITA to get off.   IMO using a rat tail file is a bad idea.
Reply:Make your own nozzle cleaner. 1/2" rebar cut off at 45* and bent in the middle at 90*.
Reply:EVERY time, before I even put on my hood, I remove the nozzle and use my mig pliers to clean it. I also keep a can of Pam cooking spray handy and give it all a short squirt....Makes huge difference in weld time between cleanings and also quality of welds....with Pam cooking spray, I just tap the nozzle on the table and the crap falls out tween long welds.
Reply:Copper tubing fitting brush. The internal brush for cleaning the insides of copper fittings before soldering. Get one that matches your nozzle size close. If it's a one time purchase a guy could even pay a bit more for a reloading brush and a handle. A .50 cal would be fine. Doing that you could get copper wire or nylon."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
