I am going to buy a Hobart Hefty. I have never setup a suitcase. I have a Bobcat and a Trailblazer. I plan on this Hefty running off my Bobcat it has CC/CV. I want to try this out before I buy it. I know I can hook it up and play. But I would like some pointers from the guys who do it everyday. Set the Bobcat and Hefty on CV and max out dial or 50%? Then switch to both to CC and check that? Again I have never played with a wire feed on an engine drive just my small lincoln 110 mig and my 350P.Thanks for your help.
Reply:Thanks a little nudge in the right direction makes all the difference. I didn't want to get there and find out I hooked it up backwards and smoked it. I talked to the guy and said I would take it as long as it would run a bead. I am sure the first couple beads would be junk until I get the setting right.
Reply:Thanks have a good weekend. I picked up a LN25 PRO last week for my buddy $500.00. I was on the road in WV and some guy on Craigslist had it. I probably should have kept it for myself. He welds for a living. I dont even play one on TV.
Reply:Just whatever you do don't hook it up to AC weld power. DC only or you will smoke the feeder. I doubt you would do that, but you never know..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Good advice so far. In addition make sure your drive mother will push wire at high and low speeds. Also bend the wire over and make sure the drive motor will push it without stalling.

Reply:Hobart Hefty is a tough unit, the weak spot is the contactor. Metal filings get in the silver contacts and cause problems. Keep the contactor clean and you well not have problems.

Reply:Dirty case on the outside from being stored in a garage for 7 years. The inside is clean. I played with this last night. Super cool I have never used a suitcase before. My wife made me shut it down. For some reason she thinks it is important for our kids to get some sleep with out a Bobcat or Trailblazer running outside their bedrooms. She said if I really wanted to run it I could put it in the garage and shut the doors. Once again guys thanks for the advice.

Reply:I do enjoy the practice. I got 3 trophies from practice. 9,6,3. When I'm playing around and the hours aren't billable, I can kind of see her point. When the hours are billable and we are making money I switch to Dialarc HF or MM 350P. I can close the shop doors and roll with it.
