Reply:-Argon bottle (as big as you can afford) 80/125/150cf should be plenty-flowmeter (HTP is a good one)-short argon hose B fitting to B fitting (make or buy)-tig torch (25ft WP17)-tig torch power block adapter-tig consumables (tungsten/cups/collets/collet bodies/etc)Your probably looking at $200 +argon bottle - depending on if you buy a used argon bottle, new, rental, and what size. Should be able to find smaller ones on CL in date for less than $100 though. You can buy the flowmeter, power block, consumables and gas hose on eBay, and a cheap TIG torch if you want to go that route.Last edited by njs552; 02-24-2016 at 12:39 AM.1988 Big 50 Diesel CC/CV1982 Weldanpower 225/2101968 SAE 300 motor generatorMaxstar 200SD2015 AHP 200x"The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so." - Ronald Reagan
Reply:njs's suggestion above is it right there. The only difference I did with my scratch start rig was I bought a CK super flex line and have the one piece plug which has a Tweco camlock connector on it. I use a short piece of lead with a female Tweco camlock connector on the end of it. This way, I can quickly disconnect it and put it away when I don't need it. You will need a torch with a gas valve on it. For TIG on the Maxtron, set the top switch to the center position, if you have a foot control, set the center switch to the middle, or 14 remote position. Contactor switch stays in remote unless you are running without one, then in panel. Last switch stays in panel. Obviously, electrode negative operation. DC output only.I'm sure if you have any experience stick welding with your machine you know that the contactor switch has to be set in remote to make any preset adjustments to the welder. I personally think they TIG weld very well. You can get that machine down to about 3-5 amps on the low end. Scratch start on the low end is best, then ramp up.Last edited by 7A749; 02-24-2016 at 08:46 AM.Expert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948 |
