Gents would $200.00 be a good price for a older working blackface Dialarc 250 with plugs and 50 foot leads and on its own rolling cart?
Reply:Yes. They are power hungry machines, but well worth it.Lincoln PrecisionTig 275Miller 251Miller DialArc 250Bridgeport millHossfeld bender & diesLogan shaperJet 14 X 40 latheSouth Bend 9" 'C'Hypertherm 900Ellis 3000 band saw21"Royersford ExcelsiorTwo shops, still too many tools.
Reply:That is a GREAT price for that machine even without leads or a power cord!GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.

Reply:Any advice on common typical malfunctions with these or is it more operator error?
Reply:Not a whole heck of a lot to go wrong with the Dialarc 250 that you wouldn't be able to discern immediately after firing it up and striking an arc. Blown transformer would be immediate death, blown diode, or whatever means Miller utilized to split the DC side of the sine wave off the AC, would cause problems on the DC side of the welder. If it is running and operable, jerk the inspection cover and give the insides a good cleaning with compressed air.Lincoln PrecisionTig 275Miller 251Miller DialArc 250Bridgeport millHossfeld bender & diesLogan shaperJet 14 X 40 latheSouth Bend 9" 'C'Hypertherm 900Ellis 3000 band saw21"Royersford ExcelsiorTwo shops, still too many tools.
Reply:Thanks much!

Reply:I have a blackface Dialarc- Love it! Bought mine off CL. I think I paid $300. The seller was able to wire a plug on and I brought a hood and some rod and ran a couple beads on the DC side just to check. Had it 5 yrs now after just having a buzz box and a nice, older Hobart BetaMig. DB
Reply:I guess I never said if I bought it or not.  Well, I did and it is great! Now I have to continue practicing melting Excalibur 7018 rods forever!I really have no idea what I am doing. Two Shop Cats (not Bobcats...real cats)Miller DialArc 250 AC/DCScratch-Start TIG SetupMIG 175Plasma CutterO/A

Reply:It's a 1993 year DialArc and everything seems to work just fine.  I had an old lincoln 225 AC only buzz box before.  I really like the DC vs AC for the hobby work I do.  There seems to much less spatter with any rods I burn on this machine, 6010, 6011, 6013, 7018.  I'm usually playing welder many evenings during the week averaging about 2-3 hours of actual hood time any normal week.I really have no idea what I am doing. Two Shop Cats (not Bobcats...real cats)Miller DialArc 250 AC/DCScratch-Start TIG SetupMIG 175Plasma CutterO/A

Reply:I traded about $1000 worth of work for one. Got the machine with Tig option, Miller cooler, 25' pedal,300 cf private owner tank and flow meter, about 50 lbs. of various Tig filler, 50'of big cable, 2-25' regular size leads with old style heavy ground clamp. When I went to pick it up He through in roughly 500 lbs. of welding rod of various flavors.second trip gave Me another 500lbs. welding rod. Put 500 lbs in an old refrigerator, other 500 lbs wrapped in plastic bags, ran out of storage. The way it works now that I have plenty of rod, the welding jobs have all been Tig. Cryin' in My beer all the way to the bank.
Reply:You did good on that deal too!GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.

Reply:Did you steal it for $200 or was it grand larceny at even less? Dial-arc's are good machines, just a tad below a Lincoln Idealarc 250. You paid for the cables and got the machine for free.

Reply:I have not tried it on AC yet.  That's funny.  I have a pound or so of 7018 AC left and I'll try to burn a few rods tonight to see how it burns them.I really have no idea what I am doing. Two Shop Cats (not Bobcats...real cats)Miller DialArc 250 AC/DCScratch-Start TIG SetupMIG 175Plasma CutterO/A
