Long time lurker first time poster here. I have a 8 x 5 trailer with a removable cage for moving firewood and general waste etc etc. I would like to build a removable enclosure to enable me to transport dirtbikes securely but also provide a place to get out of the weather when it turns bad. Currently I see everyone else turn up with a van or big pricey trailers providing shelter and a place to get geared up for a ride. I'm not concerned about weight as the trailer is rated to 2000kg. I have been staring at this thing for a wee while now trying to come up with a plan of attack but still a little unsure. This needs to be removable as I still use the trailer for everyday stuff.I have seen a few where the top/roof is hinged at the front keeping the overall height to a minimum but also allowing enough room to stand up inside. I like this design as it is less of a wind catcher but unsure of it's functionality.I'd like to maximise the space so pushing right out the edge of the guards and as far up the drawbeam as possible is the plan with building a new tailgate to double as a ramp. Any ideas, guidance is appreciated. I have a 180Amp mig running .8mm wire on CO2 and have enough welding experience to get the job done. Just tripping over the design so far. Reply:Sorry about the pictures on their side, not sure what happened there.
Reply:If you have overhead lifting capability, it would be nice just to build a dog house with an eye that you could pop into the existing stake pockets.  Light tubing frame with 29ga roofing panels for siding and roof.  Very light, and pretty sturdy.  Start buying sheets of regular stuff, and it gets pricey.  Steel roofing is cheaper by the sf as a rule, at least it is here."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I did think of using the existing stake pockets. Thought of having a small opening in the side walls to access the locking bolts. Aluminium composite panelling isn't over pricey here in New Zealand ($75 for 4mm sheet) and light. If I can make it light enough a two man lift should see it lifted on and off.
Reply:What about using metal studs ? You could use screws or weld it. https://images.search.yahoo.com/sear...organic&ri=135

Reply:Originally Posted by manwithav8Could do. Quite a bit thicker though so using more space. It is an option though depending on pricing

Reply:Each side of the trailer the two sides and the front and back, pop out of the base, so we can use it like a flat bed. There is one piece in the center that is arched and lays on top of the side pieces. The front and back sides have an arch built right on them. It works very well. Just have the canvas guy make the canvas much bigger then is needed. They always shrink later on. There are four bolts when you are done putting the sides in place that hold all four sides together at the top.                       Sincerely,                            William McCormick
Reply:I have traveled at over 70 miles an hour with that trailer in tow. And there was no aerodynamic problems or noise from the canvas. It keeps everything in the trailer dry. You can fold up the canvas, to what looks like two furniture pads worth of material. And the aluminum sides are only about two inches thick. So they can just lay up against the fence nicely when we need a flatbed.                       Sincerely,                            William McCormick

Reply:Just put the canvas over the cage. Secure with the cage and out of the weather with the canvas.Miller 180SDLincoln weld pak 180Hobart 250ciMill Lathe
