I have been doing some build up on ripper shanks.the shank was originally 3/4" thick now worn down to about 3/8" thick. I am using 5/32 lincoln Excalibur 7018 on my new to me sa 200 fifth gear ? ( left dial high setting) right dial 10 or 15  I got this fron the thread on how to set a sa 200 welds good but seems to get a lot of heat buildup in the part. On the lincoln dc 400 5/32 7018 lincoln Excalibur rod set at just over #3 on amps dial and 3 on arc force welds good. Only running about 4-6 rods then letting cool down. When finished I put hard surface in a x pattern. So how hot would you let it get before cooling down? Would there be better rods or wire to use ? On the sa 200 are the settings even close? Now some Picts.[ATTACH=CONFIG]950671  Attached ImagesLast edited by Weld one; 12-26-2014 at 09:34 PM.
Reply:Those are not the settings I am using . The picture was taken at a different time.
Reply:I'd probably be 3rd range and about 80 on the fine adjustment for that rod.For 7018, I like to use a range that allows the fine adjustment in the upper range.I'm no engine drive pro, but that's what I like.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:I use 3rd gear and around 70-80 as well.Welding 3/4" thick grader blade in the flat and overhead position.Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Trump/Carson 2016-2024

Reply:There are specific hardfacing rods. If you alternated sides left then right, I don't think getting too hot would be much of an issueTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:150-175amps for 5/32.If the metal adjacent to the weld is starting to turn a deep blue, it's getting a bit hot,, and needs a cigarette break before continuing.(and what am I doing up at this Ungodly Hour????  Sudafed  Crap doesn't let you sleep )"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:If the machine welds how you like it go with it. Have to ask why not use 3/16 7018?? Your work looks good. By the way nice little ripper It's 4 inch thick. I cut out the worn down part and welded in a new piece. It was worn to about 1 inch   Your
Reply:That is a nice ripper. 5/32 is the largest they had without ordering some.
