This spring I was helping a friend do some engine work on his lawn mower when I saw a old lincoln welder that he was working on at his shop. It was the coolest thing that I have seen in a long time. As soon as I got home I looked on the interlink to see what I could find out about it. Well I soon found pictures posted here of an identical welder being fixed up. The P.O. got it when he bought his welding shop. He said that the P.P.O. told him that it ran but stopped welding and never got fixed. I got the thing for about the price of the scrap thinking that I could probably sell a few of the onan engine parts and get my money back.This afternoon I cleaned it up a bit freed up the brushes and filed the points clean and wouldn't you know it started and ran even with the old paint thinner gas in the tank. The A.C. outlet produced 110 volts and the welding terminals had 60 volts D.C. so I think it may work. Reply:Congrats. That looks a bit older than mine. There are a couple of threads here about rebuilding these, they are what got me interested in getting one. You can get lots of info on the Lincoln site also. RussRIP Mallory, we miss you.

Reply:i have the same welder you do, i am a father of two with a new baby boy that is three days old, and i am trying to get my welding bussiness goin to make some extra money. this welder is all i could afford to start out. i live in texas. to make a long story short i cant figure out for the life of me how to get the governor adjusted properly. on mine if you have it on high idle ( weld speed) and then strike an arc it will bog the motor down pretty far. welds good but i have to turn the amps up high due to the lower rpms of the motor, then if i put it on low idle( so that the governor can take over) the governor will never idle the motor up it just bogs down. i already checked the solenoid and diaphram and it all operates as it should. but other than that i dunno what else to do or to look at. any help would be greatly appreciated. |
