I'm taking my plate test tomorrow, and was wondering how everyone else does their layering? Ps. Two 3/32 7018 root passes then the rest are all 1/8. I layer it 2:3:4 (from root - cover passes) is there a more efficient way? I'm trying not to exceed the 1/8" bead height tolerance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:Ideally, you really just want to see how it goes and make your judgement based on what's in front of you. You don't necessarily try to plan out the whole bead layout. You want to run the beads so that you get it flushed out or near flush so that you have a nice level area to run a nice even cap. Sometimes that requires you to go a little faster on a bead or lay a heavier bead to account for any differences from your previous passes. The only planning I would do is how flush you want the level prior to your cap. With stick, I would definitely recommend going under flush roughly half of your bead height that you think you are going to lay down for the cap, maybe slightly higher. Too low and you might risk undercut, too flush and you won't have the edge of the bevel to guide you and help hold the puddle nice and straightLast edited by TheBFA; 03-01-2016 at 10:50 PM. |
