I'm a little disappointed with my new Millermatic 350 pa regarding welding aluminum less than 1/8 inch thick. The smallest wire the pulsed mig function supports is .035 and which produces weld fillets too large for my liking. I can hook my trusty spoolmatic 30a up and use .025 or .030 wire if the machine is in Mig mode. Soo.... I'm wondering if I can rig the spool gun hookup and build a dial (not on the Spoolmatic 30, but on a breakout box) to signal the MM any wire speed by a dial that I want the MM to think the gun is using, while setting the actual wire feed rate on the gun to an appropriate different value. It would work like this: Set MM for .035 pulsed mig. use the rigged dial to signal a wire speed, say 350 fpm. But on the gun, where the wire is much smaller actually set the wire speed higher, perhaps a 700 fps. So, maybe the pulse mig program for 350fpm and .035 wire would give good results with .025 wire at 700 fps.Anyone done anything like this? Thanks, for comments. J.

Reply:I think the "wfs" (wire feed speed) is measured in "ipm" (inches per minute).....Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Trump/Carson 2016-2024
Reply:yeah, I think I'll go with "inches per minute" |
