I picked up a cheap AC-225-S today...it's really rougher than I would have liked, but I didn't really know until I opened it up. I've never touched a welder of any kind and had to have friends help with some repairs and additions on some Jeep projects. I figured I could pick up this inexpensive stick welder from Craigslist and learn a little bit and at least do "simple" stuff.I'm not even sure it works... I don't have the 220V Plug in my garage yet (have an electrician friend who going to help me wire)...Lots of surface rust, if it works, I planned on knocking off the rust and giving it a new coat of paint...A couple quick questions- Are the Fan's replaceable and should I bother until I know if it will even fire up?- See Cable Pic below...there are some signifigant dry cracking areas on the cable, can I tape it up, or should I replace (or junk this AC-225-S and find another)? Here are a couple pics.
Reply:This welder needs the fan. the fan blades should be available. to replace the weld leads you will have to remove the inner panel the fan is bolted to. From there you will be able to find the other end of the weld leads. The screw between the two leads on the front is part of the clamp that holds the leads in place. While you have the panel out clean and service the heat range switch. put a drop of oil on the detente. If the switch is damaged it can be replaced but you will need a very large soldering iron. just do not cut the wires off the switch, they will be to short to put on the new switch. cut the little clip around the wire and desolder it. |
