Hot welding slag flew into my nose hole and burned the crap out of my nose!  I snorted snot out all over my gloves trying to wipe that thing off/out of me.I started crying...could not help it.  My eyes were crying, my nose was snotting (It's a word, look it up) and I was cussing.I can't be the only one....I really have no idea what I am doing. Two Shop Cats (not Bobcats...real cats)Miller DialArc 250 AC/DCScratch-Start TIG SetupMIG 175Plasma CutterO/A
Reply:That's pretty bad. My second job right out of high school. 65-feet in the air leaning back in a safety belt. Big ball of slag hit me in the throat. Rolled down the inside of my shirt, and stopped at my belt. Being young and dumb I grabbed my belt, and sucked my belly in, guess where it stopped. Remember now I was 65-feet in the air with my back to the ground.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:A friend of mine was tig welding BMX frames and got shocked thru his gloves. His hands went into the air as well as his torch. The torch lead caught on something and snapped down into his crotch region. He dropped his pants and sure enough there was a hole in the tip of his pecker. He said later it did not hurt so much, but peeing burned like heck and there were 2 streams.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:I had a burn the size of a quarter. Being that young I tried my best to soak it in cider, (inside her) every chance I got. It took months to heal!Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400

Reply:Ok, finished a practice bead of Excalibur 7018 at 120 amps, flipped my hood up and chipped the slag off the bead while it was still hot.  A piece flew UP and straight into my nose hole...and stuck there.  Then, there was joy.I really have no idea what I am doing. Two Shop Cats (not Bobcats...real cats)Miller DialArc 250 AC/DCScratch-Start TIG SetupMIG 175Plasma CutterO/A

Reply:I was cutting a one inch anchor cable, when separated, it recoiled and shot molten metal into my ear. It felt like it burned my tongue.  It sounded like dropping an ice cube into a deep fryer.  I cried.  Just thinking about it, made me think about crying..Miller Dynasty 350Miller XMT 304

Reply:Under a mainline concrete paver welding a sideform, molten B B right down the ear hole and burned right thru the ear drum. I was puking before I could get my hood up. Shot out from under, stood up and headed toward my truck and the water jug. Fell down, stood up , fell down, crawled. Stood up and leaned against the truck and pushed the button on the cooler to let that ice water in the ear to stop the burn. Promptly went down again when the cold water hit the inner ear. I'm sure the other guys thought I had been laying under there drinking. That's a scar that's tough to see !!!To ride, shoot straight, and speak the truth. This was the ancient law of youth. Reply:Took many years to completely heal and go away but I used to have a pretty good pit in the bottom of my foot.  Was gouging a crack on an excavator boom with a torch and had a ball of molten metal drop down and get caught in a fold in my pants.  Proceeded to burn its way through and down the side of my boot into the bottom.  Taught me a good lesson that day......NEVER wear lace up boots when working with hot metal.

Reply:Originally Posted by pepiHow did this happen? Did his glove have a hole worn in it, skin in contact with the frame? Is there a brand of gloves that experience says to buy and use ?I was nailed a couple of times, asking the question about the cause.  Seeking any possibilities to be aware of regarding a shock using the TIG. I have come to the conclusion that groves when TIG welding.  Are more important than MIG, especially the one holding the filler rod. If being zapped now and then is the norm Ok will deal with it, just drawing a bead on the process in general.

Reply:I was working with a guy undecking a 4600 Manitowoc dragline.  Air-arcing the roller hangers off the rig in the overhead position, molten slag went under his hood and safety glasses and burned a hole right through his eyelid and into his eye.  He made a full recovery.  Once when Tiging in welding school I lifted my hood with the same hand the hot filler rod was in and jammed it right into my chest.  I then pulled it out and a little smoke came out of the nice hole the filler left right over my heart.  I then, like an idiot, sprayed burn spray in it and made the pain much worse.  I dang near passed out.

Reply:I normally tig weld so not much hot balls flying around my shop. Also the reason I always wear shoes, not much need for boots. However working on this last truck I had to mig a few joints. Nice big ball of **** came from somewhere, right down the top of my shoe, threw the sock, and just sat there...12v battery, jumper cables, and a 6013.I only have a facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/VPT/244788508917829
