First hobby fab/welding project...All done using Thermal Arc 161 STL.1- Hole drilling. +100 of them on a drill press. It took hours to drill them all...2- Vinegar mill scale removal. It worked extremely well! 48h total.... To be continued.
Reply:3- Tack welding the accessories: pull-up bar, cross-member, dip fixture, main posts brackets.
Reply:4- Forgot to mention that pull-up bar is made of 1in Sch 40 black pipe. Dirty finish removed using scuffing pad on a drill.5- 5/8in round bar for j-hooks needed to be sanded to fit Nice and tight in the 5/8in holes drilled with step drill. Used the drill press to ensure even sanding and keep the round shape. I wish i had a small lathe!!Sanded down to approx. 0.620in.Glad the holes where drilled with enough concentricity that i didnt have to reduce too much the pin diameter...
Reply:6- Welding of parts.Cross-member flanges.Main beam bracket to base beam. I struggled due to welding the brackets "in place" laying down on the concrete floor.Pull-up bar flangeAssembly
Reply:7- J-hooks welding.First pass.I also wish my machine had foot pedal capability! Lift arc and full power at all time is sometimes hard to manage for me... Also breaking the arc caused annoying /ugly arc strikes...

Reply:Looks good, but I'd look at redesigning the j-hooks with gussets underneath where the weight is going to be. Might not be an issue, but to my eye they don't look like they'd hold up to a couple hundred pounds being dropped on them repeatedly and you certainly don't want they weight you squat coming down from shoulder height.Powcon 400SM2-PD60 wire feedersMiller XR controlAlumapro push/pull gunSpeedglas 9100xBFH
Reply:I'm making one for someone as well. I will post pictures in a day or two. Turn up the radio and hang out at the drill press.Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio

Reply:I sure the J Hooks are fine. I make mine out of 3/8 and we load the bar to over 500lbs (so 250 a side) and no problem. I forgot to add LOOKS GREATDave ReberWadsworth Ohio |
