Finished out the final details on my stuff, and hopefully hit the road this weekend.Last bit of stuff to do was to put a chain on the outrigger/support/beam thingy.  It's set up so that I can hang the thing under the trailer, then attach the jacks after it's in place.  Easier for a geezer like me, less weight to fight.Lot of worries on this one.  Didn't have time to actually test this crap, and hope it goes well when I get there.  It's a long way from home to find out that you did something wrong  Comes home, tail between legs, sniffing back the tears Find out today whether he's good to go on either Sat, or Sun."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:It was an early morning rollout.Stopped in Tulsa for breakfast, and fuel.A word about breakfast  I've been stopping at this place for years, whenever I run East.  Great lunch, and great supper.  BUT A LOUSY BREAKFAST.  Almost $10 for two eggs, hash browns, toast, AND ONE STINKIN 2 1/2 DIAMETER SAUSAGE PATTY!!!!!!!!!!!!  One stinkin patty  And I had to sit there the whole time listening to the waitress bitch to some drunk sitting at the counter about not making enough tips.  When I left (and I did leave a tip), I told her she'd make more tips if they served an HONEST breakfast.  ONE STINKIN PATTY!Fuel on the trip ran from 1.63 to 1.77 at the highest.  Lucky, since it was hilly country, and the 460 likes gas when pulling hills.So.................I get there. The guy is sitting in his pickup next to the baler, and waves.  So I drive across his pasture (actually it might have been his lawn) to the baler.  Took a few times to line the trailer up with the baler.  Has to be dead on, or the thing won't go up the ramps straight.Guy gets out of his pickup pizzin and moanin about me rutting up his $2000 a bushel sprigged Bermuda grass with the truck  "So...MORON, why didja park the baler here???"  Moron. So I get the ramps down, jack up the front of the baler (I brought my hi lift jack), and put the dolly underneath it.AND AWAY WE GOSo far, so good.Come to the lip, and it's a tight squeeze.  I could have put the dolly up another notch when I attached it, but figured I'd have enough room to clear.  As it was, I had to let the air out of the tires on the hay pickup, but it went over smooth. The outriggers perfomed as planned.  Thank you Irish Fixit for turning me on to Beam Boy  I still owe you one for thatYou might notice, after I've pointed out, the way the ramps were designed to fit the trailer.  The side rails weren't plumb cut, they were slightly back cut to avoid contact with the trailer, and to give wiggle room if the ground isn't completely even.  It worked out nicely."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:So I get the thing on the trailer.  It's mighty long, longer than I'd figured.  Long enough to cause a possible weight distribution problem.  I was worried that it was gonna be tongue light.I brought my tongue scale along (yeah ANAL), but Thank God I did.  Once on the trailer, the tongue only had 550# on itSo I pile all the ramps, winch, and the kitchen sink on the front of the trailer.  And I had to turn the dolly tongue to the back to allow the baler to roll forward another few inches.  Weight it again, and the weight was 750#.  Not ideal, but not bad.  I was hoping for something in the neighborhood of 1000#  (some pics are out of sequence, taken when I got back, didn't have time to fool around with pics when I was loading)Got everything tied down, a long time consuming process.  Gets real embarrassing when a large object falls off the trailer smack dab in the middle of the highwayNow it's West Bound and Down"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Looks good sitting up there!!
Reply:A word about the roads.......................  Sorta says it all.  48 miles of this between Harrison, and Huntsville  And about as hilly, and steep as you'd want.Seems to be a lot of "Villes" in ArkansasLot of logging in this part of the state too I guessI honestly believe that I didn't pass one single gas station on the way back without a visit  Pulling that stupid baler is like pulling a very large sail.  Add to that, the winds were up to around 40mph gusty on Saturday.  Averaged 8mpg on the round trip.I didn't hit 65mph until I got back into Oklahoma.  The roads, especially around Harrison, were steep.  55mph max on the few flat stretches, and down to 30mph pulling the grades.  The old motor got a workoutYou can always tell when you get back to Oklahoma.  You can mark the State line with a ruler across the highway.  It turns to crap in literally a few feet over the border.  We have LOUSY roads"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Thought I'd take a pic of the effects of high lateral forces when turning.  (taken during yet another stop for gas)  Lotta force there.  Left the house when it was dark, and got back when it was dark.  Getting a bit old for this crap methinksNow she's homeSunday, after a long REAL BREAKFAST, and a few smokes, it's time to get the stupid thing off the trailer.  Something I wasn't looking forward to.  K'kins first son was kind enough to come over to help me out.  It was a two man operation.Hook a come along to the back of the baler.Attach the winch line to the front of the baler.Reason for all this.........You have to pull the baler to the back of the trailer until it hits the ramp lip.  Then you have to continue to put a strain on the rear line to keep it all tight as you let the baler descend.  You have to do this to keep the dolly running straight.  The front winch line actually forces the dolly tongue to run true.  It's a long slow process.  You have to coordinate the front and back guys to do it right.  Lot of hollering to pull/stop/pullI raised the dolly up a notch this time to clear the lip.  Worked nice.About the time the sun was starting to go down.........THE EAGLE HAS LANDED"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:It took you all sunday to get it off the trailer?12v battery, jumper cables, and a 6013.I only have a facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/VPT/244788508917829
Reply:In retrospect, the heavier ramps were exactly what the doctor ordered. When the load was centered on the ramp, there was little deflection in the side rails.Where the load was closer to the side rails, not evenly distributed, there was a bit of deflection.I have a bit more to put up here, but it's getting late in the day, and still have a bunch of stuff to do today.  It being Beer Nite, I'll get to it later when I have a nice can of suds sitting in front of me"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Come to think of it.  I think I pulled in at 11:30, and called K'kins from Hardee's at about 2:30 in the afternoon.  I'd just gotten loaded, and called her as soon as I pulled in for lunch.  It's one of her rules.  so I guess it took about 3hrs to get it loaded."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
