help with lincoln v205 ac/dc

hi folksjust picked one of these up and looking for help with the crisp 6010 mode mma , not sure if the machine is faulty but when i set the juice to say 60 amps ,as soon as i ark up the amps soar to well over 100 amps then when i stop welding the amps drop back down to 60 amps again!also in crisp mode the max amp setting is only 140. in normal mma (soft) it will weld fine and up to 180 amps, tig dc up to 200 and tig ac up to 195 i think, any ideas if this crisp mode is faulty?Last edited by eljockvis; 10-12-2010 at 05:51 PM.
Reply:Hi there, We have 2 of these units, a early model and this later unit. To be fair we don't use them for anything but TIG work but i'll put my 2 cents in since no one else has commented.Check the hot start settings and also the that there isn't some sort of remote thing going on. In the hidden menu you can change the value of the range of amps you want to weld in to make the unit's adjustment more sensitive.This is designed for remotes on TIG torches or foot pedals so you have a very accurate ramp up and down rather than burning holes!For the hot start i would basically turn it off or just above it or when you get your electrode close to the work and get it humming just right the unit will decide it is going stub and boost the current up.Now for question 3 the peaks amps is strange one sometime they will go right up to 200 and other times they won't. I find they often don't in AC i'm not sure why....Any ideas anyone?
Reply:hi and thanks for the reply i turned down the chrisp mode hot start and ark force % mode 5&6 via menu but no difference,reset all parameters mode 11 too no difference!well the tech at lincoln says it sounds like a fault so its going for repair, the machine is just back from lincoln due to needing a new control panel board  ..Last edited by eljockvis; 10-14-2010 at 01:52 PM.

Reply:yea, it seems like this newer version has a few reliability issues, the new version has the 6010 mode and a few more parameter change options in the menu and thats about all i think ,i wouldnt really expect such a small facelift to make the machine more at a risk of going wrong but who knows, are you aware of other newer versions going bad?, mines is only about 1 month old but i suppose it could have been sitting in a ware house for ages before i got it, is it possible to tell what year the machine is in the hidden menu or by serial number?
Reply:hii noticed also that on stick mode the amps never stay the same according to the lcd indicator, i was rooting a pipe with a 7016 2.5 rod ,i had the juice set to 65 amps then i notice its at 67 amps then 68 then 65 again.... is that the case with your machine ?
Reply:Date of manufacture Is the 3rd through 6th numbers in the serial number. year and month.First two are the country and plant code.What is your code number? reread the operator book. It may  give a clue to why it is operating this way.
Reply:yeah amps jump everywhere while welding same with tig. Not sure why they all do it. Yes the newer ones do have a few more issues i've heard of them dropping out when being trialed! Reply:hidoes any one else have a new model v205 ac/dc with the 6010 crisp mode? my machine only goes to 140 amps in this mode and if i set the juice to say 80 amps ,as soon as i start welding the amps go way over 100 and stay there till i stop welding! can anyone let me know how theres behaves in this mode please.
