Customer brought in a thermostat housing from a Ford single axle flatbed of some kind. They could not find the part to purchase another one - mechanic shop broke it. Then they had someone weld it badly and it just fell apart - lots of extra grinding for me Not the prettiest work I've done - but they were happy Cleaned the inside too.Weird gap from grinding out their bad weld...Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:Really nice work. Those housings can be tough sometimes because of poor quality aluminum. Looks like this one was good to work with.Yeah, I know, but it'll be ok!Lincoln Square wave 255Miller Vintage mig30a spoolgunThermal Dynamics Pacmaster 100xl plasmaSmith mc torchEllis 1600 band saw
Reply:Nice job! Kinda makes you wish it were one of the newer plastic ones... not really.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.

Reply:It is times like this when I wonder why the owner or the welder doesn't make a new casting using the original to make a mold. Weld it up, grind it down and make a whole new one. Not just to have a new part, but also to preserve a part no longer available.Just curious....Nice fix!!Or, scan it and use a 3D printer to make a new one as well. Then use the plastic as the part to make a mold.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain

Reply:Originally Posted by MinnesotaDaveValid question, but around my area, no one does sand casting. From what I've recently read about 3D printers, those darn things print in metal now - so the replacement could have been made from a scan while having a beer
