http://fortcollins.craigslist.org/tls/5490827348.htmlThis fella is holding it for a couple hours and then he has a gaggle of others coming to look at it this afternoon. He will only take full price and I don't have time to research it. I need a vise for my bench and have been looking for some time but have not poured through the other makes and options available such as parker, reed yada yada. Seems like the Wiltons command a premium from the collectors drawing attention. I don't need the flashy look of the bullet if it is not worth it and I can get just as good a vise for less money in another make and model. General fabrication, and shop homestead work. Thanks

Reply:I believe I actually own this model but again maybe it is just the image but it looks small. I think I got a good deal on ebay new $450 shipped.
Reply:Looks like it opens 6 1/2", but the jaw size is 4".The price isn't absurd, but it's not so cheap that I'd ask you his address and your name, and send you on a wild goose chase.
Reply:Originally Posted by TDog78Kind of what I thought on the size. I do think that model during that time was the smallest overall footprint of the bullet styles. The max opening is 6.5 inches just like the jaw size.
Reply:Are the bullets worth the premium they are fetching right now though is the big question for me. Now that they are kind of a collectors item and have the "look" the prices can be ridiculous.

Reply:That is the older model which is what I would prefer. I don't know about 6 1/2'' jaws either. Did you ask if the jaws are 6 1/2'' ? It sure is pretty new indeed . Many Wilton prices can be crazy high for the older ones but many prefer the WILTON.If you got the $$$ and you feel comfortable with a like new vise for half new price , BUY IT !! It's only money.
Reply:Its a good unit. You will have it the rest of your life. It does not even look like it was bolted down to me.

Reply:This is not the machinist vice but a lower end. I don't call these bullet vises.

Reply:It would be a shame for someone who just collects them to get it, instead of someone who will ACTUALLY USE IT.The seller won't have it anymore by sundown today, most likely. It might as well be you who get's it, if you got first dibs on it.Last edited by Bistineau; 03-17-2016 at 01:28 PM.
Reply:He just verified they are 6.5 inches wide. I think Ill go ahead and head in to get it. About hour and a half from me.

Reply:Looks kinda like a 400s. I'd be if those aren't 4" wide jaws and a 6 1/2" throat. Depending on what you plan on doing I can't say it's a screaming hot deal. It's meh to me, but you won't get hurt on it. If you're just going to be heatin' and a beatin' on it...........don't spend that kind of change on something just so you can say "I got a Wilton". I've got a free who knows what / where it was made, but couldn't have cost $20 when new that is bolted the corner of my table. I've heat and beat and everything in between for 20+ years with no problems. I've got a Wilton just like the one you have pictured. Guess where it sits????? Back corner of the shop, on the floor, under 11 piles of crap. Why? Because I don't want to tear up my "good" vise. "You can't out puke a buzzard"
Reply:He is telling me he is absolutely 100% positive that it has a 6 & a half inch wide jaw and six and a half inch wide opening so hopefully he's right he's not wasting an hour 45 minutes of my time

Reply:We sell that exact vise for $525 on our floor so I'd say $225 is a great price. Around my area used Wilton vises go for crazy money. If that was on my local CL I would expect to see it closer to the $350 or even the $400 mark since it's in such good condition.

Reply:$150 is a great price when it's only 4 1/2'' . NOW if it was 8'' it could cost a lot more.

Reply:I did not realize that I posted 4.5 it's the 4-inch machinest but I still consider it a decent deal and picked it up.
Reply:Well, here it is. Honestly it is in pretty good shape. I don't thing it has seen a lot of work in it's day. I am a little peeved that it happened the way it did and is usually why I insist on a picture with a tape measure across stuff especially when dealing with CL. The Wilton guy really talked me into it. He pointed out that the 6.5 Tradesman is about 71 pounds the 4 inch machinist (this one) is 61 and the equivalent tradesman 4.5 is is 20 pounds lighter. In essence it is closer in weight to the 6.5 then the 4.5 tradesman. Taking 150 dollars is what sealed the deal really. I wanted the larger purchase area and bite of the 6.5 or 5.5 but it is hell for stout, and it might me nice that it won't sit so high off my welding table. If it does not work out I can sell it or save it for my kids. I have talked to a couple fellas that greatly prefer their smaller vise to the beasts. P.S I was trying to type on my phone when I posted the above 4.5 inch dimension while at his house when I meant 4.
Reply:Was the guy a crackhead, thief or what would you reckon? If you change your mind I can buy that off you.
Reply:He showed me a rolling tool box he had it bolted to that he took around the job sites....since then he changed jobs and kept it for years just in case and now is cleaning things out. I was peeved but honestly feel bad for him as he was completely embarrassed and genuinely bothered that he had wasted my time. He knew he had made a mistake and was quick to fess up, I wish some people had that kind of humility. Now on the flip side if he had shrugged his shoulders and said oh well.....then the police might of had to show up; I cannot tell you how many times I have been unbelievably specific on item details (especially with retailers) only to drive a long way and have my time wasted so my patience is short with it any more.
Reply:That thing is nice enough it would have rode home in the front seat with no seat cover. You did really well. Makes me want to go dig mine out and actually use it."You can't out puke a buzzard"
Reply:Yeah, I would have let the whole incorrect measurement thing slide when he said $150..Woulda broke my hand getting the money out of my pocket.... That's a really nice vise and a great deal. Enjoy it!Expert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948
Reply:Thanks, and thanks to all here for helping me out so quick to help me come to a decision.
Reply:You did well !! Vises are like VICES , you need more then one. There are lots to choose from and specific uses for them. I have one setup on a roll a round wheel that I let the new to be welders use. If they slip with a grinder, and leave a mark, it's no big deal. BUT if that was done to my BIG A$$ HEAVY vise , . I would be really upset. Once you start to acquire more vises, you wonder how you did without .
Reply:I've got a 6" on a receiver and it strains my -uts every time i change it, A 4" would be nice because 99% of the time that is all you need.
