I am new here and new to welding especially wire feed, with or without gas. I bought a used Hobart Handler 140, and I have a problem. It seems that no matter what I set the wire speed at it does not change. Is this a common problem, how do I fix it? Got the welder fairly cheap used, is it worth trying to fix or not? Thanks in advance for any advice.
Reply:Small welders wire drives tend to fail with the motor drive transistor shorted.

There are a few things that can cause wire speed issues, mostly simple fixes."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder |
