Hello, greatly appreciate tips ....What cup size is recommended for tig welding 20 gauge 316L or 308L using .040 tungsten? What about a gas lens? Thank you!
Reply:Depends on allot of things, joint type, travel speed, amperage... What colors are allowable? Going to have a heat sink? I would use a #6 cup, prefer a gas lens but it may not be required.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG

Reply:My problem is that as the cup size goes up my travel speed increases and my working piece gets hotter!I really have no idea what I am doing. Two Shop Cats (not Bobcats...real cats)Miller DialArc 250 AC/DCScratch-Start TIG SetupMIG 175Plasma CutterO/A

Reply:OK back to tig welding ............I like a larger cup for AC with higher amps than 150 1/8 in. tungsten....Unless there is a reason to extend the tungsten I can't see a reason for Gas Lens.....Since I run a lot of Helium with my parts I have found running a higher flow rate is necessary to get good coverage......Most of my aluminum stuff is done with a 6 std cup....2% Lanthanated Last edited by B_C; 01-01-2015 at 10:13 PM.
