I recentaly purchased a lincoln 300/300 bare tig machine, the later grey model,   What would be the most popular gun, air/water cooled, that would be good to start with,  and what foot/hand amptnol control,  I have zero experince so starting out true rookie,  Thanks  Eric,
Reply:how thick alloy are you going to be welding. i.e. the heavier you will need water cooling (I would say up to 6mm a WP26 air cooled torch would be ok).are you going to be sitting at a bench or moving around the job.foot controls are great for welding at tables and last forever but hand amp control are good for working on the job. i.e. inside a boat.
Reply:Gotcha,   whell,  Iam gona try,...to weld a pop can,  probably  1/6   threw 1/4 ,...sitting down until I can stand : If  I get good enough to get two pieces to actually stick together,,  Ill probably get a hand control,  Thanks  Eric
Reply:What type of remote control plug does your welder have. 14 pin, 6 pin or two plugs 2 and 3 pin.the 14 and 6 pin type can use any new lincoln control. just make the plug match. The 2 plug is a problem. It takes a control with a  high wattage resistor inside. 50 to 100 watts. Lincoln no longer make this one or has the parts to build or repair it.Post the code number and we can see which one you have.

Reply:Heres a pic of the lincoln 300,  any good?   Thanks Eric Attached Images
Reply:You may have trouble getting a Lincoln foot control. Last I herd you had to buy a short adapter cord to adapt the current control to it. or buy the right plug and solder it on yourself.Might have better luck with one of the other control companies. Like ck woldwide or profax or one of the others talked about here on the boards.Get a torch, bottle of gas and your remote and happy tigging. You can test out the welder with a set of stick welding leads and make sure it works before buying all the TIG equipment.
Reply:Thanks  ccawgc,  Ill try it out before buying any attachments,   Eric
Reply:I wound up purchasing a Lincoln K870-1 6-pin TIG Foot Control for mine. It worked advertised until the PC control board rectifiers shorted out. (nothing to do with the foot pedal) There was no need for any adaptor or special plug, the amphenol connector was an exact match.
Reply:the older tig 300/300 had a smaller 6 pin plug. this one has the current standard plug.
Reply:Try www.ssccontrols.com for the foot pedal.  Thats where I am going to get mine from for my TIG-300/300.  I've searched all over the place for a foot pedal for mine and came up with nothing.  They don't list it on the site but if you e-mail they should be able to help you.  I currently have a thumb amptrol and its great when i'm on the floor working on chassis and what not but I would much rather have a foot amptrol when sitting at the table.Chris Allredwww.UnusualFabrication.com
Reply:Ill check them out,  Ill try it out over the holiday first, before spending any cash on attachments, It looks like a good machine ......,  well see,  Eric
