Hey guys since I've kinda learned how do use this site I might get annoying with questions. But I just bought this short hood to fix up and make a pipeline machine out of was just wondering if there was anyone near middle TN that I could get to redo the wiring on it and tune it up for me then I'm gonna do the body work on it
Reply:I built up a 47 model before, mine had a "dog chain" going to the governor that acted as the rheostat. As for the wiring save yourself some money Billwelderrepair.com has all the wiring diagrams you will need.
Reply:If you go to the Lincoln website they will Suggest authorized repair centers in the area.If I recall Nashville has one that will build it from theGround up if you'd like.....1981 Lincoln SA 200Miller Trailblazer 302gMiller 211 Mig Welder w/ AutosetI'm learning to stick metal together
Reply:Yeah I have a guy in Nashville that usually works on mine I need to call him and see if he has time to work on it. I'm only bout an hour from there  the machine is a little rough but I did get it running and it welds but the fine current rheostat didnt work.  I'm wanting to update it all like it still has the old generator instead of a alternator and put the idler upgrade on it and some gauges and get it ready to pipeline but when it comes to wires im terrible with them  but thanks for the reply fellas il try and keep in touch on the progress when I get started  and any more questions I have il be sure to ask
Reply:Good luck with it. I just bought a '51 short hood and am working on it right now.  Haven't got it started yet but I'm getting close to trying. I think once mine is running good it's going to Bill's in OKC for beautification and a couple of upgrades.I'm not a pipeline welder I just want to have it restored. Here's a few pics of my new girlfriend. She really isn't as bad as it looks. It's really straight. Now the trailer....I'm sure it will make someone a fine boat anchor.Last edited by goinssr; 12-26-2010 at 07:04 PM.StephenMillermatic 251Miller Syncrowave 200Miller 30A SpoolgunHypertherm Powermax 30Etc., etc., etc.............Cancer Sucks!
Reply:Sounds good If you have any questions I do all my own work on my machine
Reply:Hey Goinssr, are you sure yours is a 51. To me it looks older, I could be wrong but, I noticed yours has the rounded brush cover. From what I have been around the 50's where squared off.
Reply:The face plate says the serial # is A249576, and according to the chart that Stumph's has on their website it's a 1951 model.  But there is one thing that has be a little befuddled. I went to Wisconsin's web page to date the engine according to the serial # on it (I assume the engine serial # is the # on the aluminum plate below the oil filter cannister) and it said that the engine was manufactured in 1941. Would Wisconsin have an engine in inventory for 10 years before it was used? I wouldn't think so.StephenMillermatic 251Miller Syncrowave 200Miller 30A SpoolgunHypertherm Powermax 30Etc., etc., etc.............Cancer Sucks!
Reply:Here is a 1951, but it has different knobs than yours. But then again here is a 1948 with the same knobs as you have. Confusing isn't it? What does your radiator grille look like?Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Yea the chart at Stumpfs is correct. I thinks Bills welder repair site has a chart that goes off the code #. May check that out too. Is it a hand crank or has a starter on the 51
Reply:Dumb me I should of looked at ur pics a little better. I saw the hole where the starter goes.

Reply:Wayne Howard at Quality Welding Torch and Supply can be of help with the SA's. He's in downtown Nashville. If you need his contact info, let me know. Did you sell your other machine, or was that someone else I'm thinking about?

Reply:Yeah Wayne works on my classic II when it needs  I'm gonna give him a call Tom cause it is broke down right luckily I'm off for a few days before I have to head back to work and I'm gonna ask him if he has time to work on the 47 I know he does it at his house sometimes for side money. But I also have another short hood but not sure on the year cause the numbers on the front face plate are barely visible I can't make them out.  But it is just a hand crank does anyone know the timeline that they did that to try and narrow it down a little bit.  And if anyone knows anything about my SA-250 with a deutz motor any info on why it would just shut down and keep blowing the fuse on the reset button be awesome to hear your thoughts. Any ideas would be great. Maybe same a trip to Nashville
Reply:Found the serial # chart at Bill's  http://www.billswelderrepair.com/WELDER_AGE.html
