Rookie welder here.............just bought a used xmt 304 cc/cv.   Its got auto link.  Now can i simply wire on a plug for say 230v  and not have to open the machine and wire any legs diferently?
Reply:Thnx for the help..........I have one more question if you could help me.........Went out and purchased a 240 30 amp lead and plug for a washer dryer outlet.  I spliced everything together.  Welder turns on and looks like everything is working fine.  Dont have any leads yet to weld with but displays all look good.   But when I connected the white, and the black from the welder to the cord of the plug I was taking an educated guess if i was connecting them properly due to the fact that the cord on the plug was not color coded or labeled.  All seem to look good though......is there any chance the polarity could be backwards.......When put on stick weld i get a reading of 85.## volts, and amps seem to adjust properly.Everything seems ok, just dont want to break my machine when i go to weld with it.Please excuse my "green" question, always been a burner never a welder........ hopefully i will be one someday!

Reply:The XMT series machines from Miller are not exactly what I would consider a welder for a "rookie".Those are serious industrial style machines that are very expensive. Reply:Nice machine, you are starting off on the right foot for sure.  As you progress developing your welding skills you can be sure your machine is not holding you back. My first welder was an Airco buzz box.  I bought that particular one because a local welder I knew had one the same and he turned out some beautiful work with it.I struggled with it trying to learn to weld with it, was OK flat or horizontal but I never could get the vertical and overhead perfect, and 7018 was particularly hard to get the bead going .Finally got a DC machine to weld with and my out of position welding improved immediately.  Point is the other welder could still do nice work with a lesser machine, but trying to learn to weld I couldn't get it right.  With your machine you will never have that problem.  You won't regret buying it."The reason we are here is that we are not all there"SA 200Idealarc TM 300 300MM 200MM 25130a SpoolgunPrecision Tig 375Invertec V350 ProSC-32 CS 12 Wire FeederOxweld/Purox O/AArcAirHypertherm Powermax 85LN25
