Motivation:  build a PortaBand saw guide for severing tube/pipe (1-1/2" ~ 2-1/4" OD)Reference:  www.techsouthinc.com/pipeclamps/sawguides.html, $$Solution: adopt a "bridged" approach using aluminum truss clamps.  No cost, $ zilch, freebie, no bill.Build progressing.  Need to cut away excess 1/4" mild steel plate spanning the 2ea truss clamps to reduce the clamp's net profile/weight. Fit up and dry run with hacksaw blade were solid.  Assembly seems adequately rigid to maintain x-y-z position between each section of tubing/pipe during cutting.  Test cuts on 1-1/2" DOM tubing with a vintage PorterCable saw soon. Reply:That is very nice!
Reply:Nice job, can't tell you how many times that would have come in handy.TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:@ Murphy & Chris - thanks guys!First cut on 1-1/2in solid bar last night.  Sliced off about 1/4 of the wing nut studs on the clamps to eliminate the ports-band interference, and rotated both clamps 180deg to change the attack angle.  The test run went smooth and the cut ends of the bar were perfectly square.  Also, decided to leave the wider "base" on the tool to provide for clamping and stationary cutting.  All in all, stoked.  Attached Images"Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
Reply:Now you need to weld that to a piece of 2" square tubing so you can use it in a receiver mount hitch on your table if you have one/some(2" hitch tubing). That way when you need it, insert it into the hitch, make the cuts and put it away, no fiddling with the clamps anymore.
Reply:Prefer to retain the jig's mobility to facilitate any in-situ cuts that may be required.  Clamping requires ::20 of effort."Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
