my 220 has 209v need a voltage transformer ??????

I need a transformer  the electrician said I have 210 volts in my 220 but I need 230 I asked him if he could set the transformer up on my welding cart   he said yes but that was 3 weeks ago I understand some electrical but where would I find the transformer that I needed aside 600 dollars a little steep anything you can suggest

Reply:If that 209 volts is actually supposed to be 230,I would contact the power co.Is your "120v" voltage also low?.If you only have a 208/120 system you may need a transformer. Reply:Best bet is to give the PoCo a call. If that low a voltage is inherent to your feed and you get caught in an area wide brown out situation you could be at risk for equipment/appliance damage. Reply:If you want to implement jpump5's buck-boost xfmr suggestion above, here's how.Select a 220v to12v xfmr having a secondary current rating equal to or higher than the primary current rating of your welder.  Connect the 220v primary of your xfmr to the downstream side of your welder's power switch.  Disconnect one end of the welder primary from the power switch and wire the 12v winding between the switch and the welder primary.  Turn on the power and measure the voltage across the welder primary.  If it is the desired voltage you are finished.  If it is lower than the supply voltage, unplug the power and reverse either the primary or the secondary leads of the 12v xfmr (not both). The huge benefit of this approach is that the size, weight, and cost of the xfmr are all about (12/220)th of a 209v/230v xfmr feeding the entire primary power to your welder (if you could find one).awright
