What's your thoughts of the Milwaukee 6180-20?Would you suggest anything else?http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...FSTZQgod3Q0AoA
Reply:What are you cutting?  for tube/angle/pipe, I highly recommend the Milwaukee deep cut, variable speed, portable band saw.Kevin / Machine_Punk from The Aerodrome Studio - Lincoln PowerMIG 210 MP - Meco N Midget w/custom welding station - Vintage Victor 100Current Projects: The Aerodrome Studio

Reply:Not sure if it helps. This website sells reconditioned Milwaukee 6190-20 dry cut saw for $340. Not as cheap as an abrasive saw but a good price on a great dry cut saw.

Reply:Since you are looking at Northern, look a little farther down the page. They sell their own dry saw for $264. I have only had the Milwaukee and Dewalt versions, so I can't speak to its quality, but it will likely do better than a chop saw.  http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...6857_200326857

Reply:The Northern dry cut is probably the smart way to go here, if budget is the issue.  You'll save the difference just in the cost of blades vs discs, and the toothed blades are going to make a much cleaner and quicker cut than an abrasive disc. They go on sale for $249 sometimes.  If you're not in a huge rush, wait for the Christmas (or after-Christmas) price. You can even get by with a circular saw and a steel cutting blade, although the lifespan of the blade won't be as long as it would be on a lower-RPM 14" saw..Jack OlsenMy garage website

Reply:I have a small JET bandsaw, and I love it for 2 reasons, no mess with dust and shavings everywhere, and it locks in the upright position for cutting patterns and stuff. I got a deal on mine, but even new theyre a little more than you wanted to spend.I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Reply:If you are committed to going abrasive, make sure it has a cast, not stamped steel table. I know Jet is cast, I think Milwaukee is as well I  would still go for a dry cut, it's a world of difference unless you have to cut hardened steel.
Reply:I have a Milwaukee circular saw type dry cut saw used three times, it's too darn heavy for me if interested PM me and will give details, is that a 7x 12 jet bandsaw if so that's what I use and wouldn't be caught without [email protected] Shopmaster 300Miller Syncrowave 250Miller Thunderbole 250/150 AC-DCMiller Weldpack 140 w/autosetMiller S-22 WirefeederLincoln 255 xt Mig welderLincoln 216 Mig welderVictor,Smith and Harris OA7X 12 JET BANDSAW
Reply:Originally Posted by BrokeLoserCutting mostly angle, tube and flat stock up to 1/4". I've used that saw you're talking about for rough cuts. Not sure how it would work for tight tolerance cuts?
Reply:I second the bandsaw idea,  I like my Dewalt dry cut saw but it's noisy and a pain to set up.   I use my Portband much more now and eventually you'll get good at freehand cutting with it.
Reply:I would watch craigs list for a used chop abrasive saw. What's your location ?   Like stated, a portable bandsaw is great.  Machine Punk  has a neat setup with his saw, I did something similar  with mine. He mentioned a disc sander, that's the nuts for truing up a cut. Great tool to add to a collection. Mine is a Powermatic 12''  disc and 6''x48'' belt. Money well spent.
Reply:I have the Evolution Rage 4 -  7 1/4" and it works great for me. You can buy it for under $200.Burt _____________________Miller Syncrowave 250Millermatic 211Miller 375 Plasma Cutter Hobart Handler 12010FtDrillBit.com
Reply:I found a slightly used dry cut saw but the seller says the blade has a chipped tooth. Does the blade need to be replaced? If so, I may as well tack on $100 to the price...right?
Reply:I have used many brands of abrasive chop saws, and IMO, Makita is the best, with DeWalt running second.
