it has a error msg that states invalid overlay.. is that something that is fixable if so any pointers? any suggestions are apreciated
Reply:Pulled the manual from the Lincoln site? Is the overlay clean so it can read it?
Reply:yes and yes
Reply:Time to find your local Lincoln rep and ask them. Even better if they have another overlay to try out.
Reply:ok thanks i was hoping it wouldnt come to that but thanks for the sugestions..... how much do you think ill end up diggin out of the pocket ive never had to go to a rep for repair
Reply:The answer to the question should be free, since you can ask it over the phone. Also, if you can get another overlay from someone else on this forum (or even a scanned copy) you could try that. Search the welder name and variations. You might also try cleaning the sensor that reads the overlay with a swab and some rubbing alcohol. AssUming that the machine legitimately "thinks" it detects an invalid overlay code, if it isn't the code area on the overlay it might be the sensor.
Reply:thats what i did some rubbing alcohol and a qtip like how i used to clean my old nintendo games .... thanks ill give it a shot and i have to look up where i can get the sensor....... now im sure i can research it but maybe i can bum it off you quick what exactly is the overlays job on the machine sorry im still learning only 17 and been at it under 2 years.
Reply:The overlays have a code that the machine reads. Read your manual thoroughly for theory of operation. It's a famously annoying system. I forget the applicable posts but you can check the manual for the different options and post in other forums too.Maybe check with the owner of this one? http://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb...-450-a-201224/If you are sent an accurate scan of an overlay it MAY be practical to duplicate them by printing on plastic transparency. I don't have a machine or overlays to test, but a barcode is a barcode. |
