what would make a welder to stop working

Hello all, as per the title. was practicing tonight, decided to take a break, went out turned the welder on and after a couple of weak arcs, it just wouldn't arc any more. the box was still buzzing. went back in the house for awhile, came back, turned the machine on, it buzzed but the electrode won't arc. changed the ground, changed the electrode, increased the amperage, changed the electrode holder, even took the thing apart to see if anything had vibrated loose., nothing. all it does is buzz. this is a inexpensive 120v buzz box. any ideas what might be the cause? thanks
Reply:disregard the above post. went back out to the garage, jiggled the wires a few times the machine started working again.

Reply:Might be a good idea to check those wires for a loose connection, wouldn't want to shorting out on the case.

Reply:Why do you think it's called Miller Time?Hobart cutting/welding torch.MM252, and nothing else.  My first welder.  Buy once, cry once....but I really would like a nice 50/60A circuit to run it at full strength.A bunch of ideas, and not enough time and money to bring them to life.

Reply:well after a few more times of frustration, decided to take a closer look and saw a slight indent on the cable sheath near the stinger. cut the sheath off and saw that 1/3 of the cooper strands was broken. a few months ago had changed the stinger from a clamp on type to a twist on. thinking maybe with all the twisting when replacing electrodes, that this might be the cause of the intermittent problem I was having. cut off below where the breakage was, put everything back together, everything is working as before. thanks everyone for their help.
