Hi, My name is David and I am currently living in Montreal. I have been running a metal fabrication shop for the last 6 years and I have 4 years experience in welding. My son got married two years back and he is now settled in LA. My wife and me are moving to LA in September. I want to work as a professional welder after I reach there. How can I get a job? Should I enrol for a certificate program in welding? There is an institution here which provides the courses http://www.weldtechtraining.com/welding-courses. Will it help me get a job?
Reply:If by LA you mean Los Angeles, and not Louisiana? It’s been years since I worked in Los Angeles. I remember every welder who came out of the union hall had to have the Los Angeles city welding certification.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:I'd be checking into this before I move. Pretty sure you just can't go to another country and start working, tell them that at customs and you'll be on the first bus back home.

Reply:Welcome, I wonder if the US Embassy can be of any help. As stated, I would send out some resumes before packing up and leaving. Maybe take a leave of absence from work to visit family first.  Sounds kinda scary to me.
Reply:I'm pretty sure you must have an H-1B work visa to come and live and work while applying for a green card.
Reply:I know if going to canada you need a work permit and a sponsoring company to hire you before you can enter and work in Canada. I would imagine it is similar trying to work in the US.
Reply:My wife got her brother and sister over here about 4 years ago.  It took 10 years prior to that to get the immigrant visas ("green card").  Yes, 10 years.  Might be a little quicker to sponsor parents as opposed to married adult siblings.  My wife was a citizen before she applied for them."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder

Reply:you want to come to the united states and work?      that just don't sound right.
Reply:You won't need anything to come. Just promise to vote democrat and you won't need a job, you will get a free cell phone, welfare, food stamps ,free health care. Oh I almost forgot you can probably get a cash under the table job going to Trump rallies and protesting or helping orchestrate a race or lgbt crime so they can have more excuses to take guns away from the public.Last edited by thegary; 04-06-2016 at 10:50 AM.

Reply:Both Dan and Dave Blankenship from "Curse of Oak Island" fame also have dual citizenship as well.  I worked for the company that the Laginas, Craig Tester, and the Blankenships own up until recently.  Dave told me that he and his father both retain dual citizenship. Reply:Canadians from the north and Mexicans from the south.  Don't worry, there's room for everybody!!!I wonder what the ratio of Canadian to Mexican immigrants(including illegals) is, 1:1000?  Sorry, just thinking out loud here.

Reply:Around here U.S. Immigration Officers do not want to hear that you have dual citizenship. For them you are whatever the documents say that you use to enter the United States and if you are a U.S. citizen they want you to enter the country as a U.S. citizen. As such you can not be denied entry. If you enter under any other country's flag you can be denied entry with out a stated  cause at the discretion of the officer. Furthermore by presenting yourself at the border you have agreed to whatever search(s) of your person, luggage and vehicle that the officers deem necessary to protect the country and its citizens.---Meltedmetal

Reply:They cant even build a desalination plant, they don't have the power to run it.If a desalination plant were built to give only 10 gallons of water to everyone in the LA area the power requirement would approach that of the output of a nuclear power plant.old Miller spectrum 625 Lincoln SP-135 T, CO2+0.025 wireMiller model 250 and WP-18V torchCraftsman 100amp AC/DC and WP-17V torchCentury 115-004 HF arc stabilizerHome made 4 transformer spot welderHome made alternator welder

Reply:2 of those nuclear power stations shut down with in the last few months.I revise my original statement. If they had the power to run a desalination plant they don't anymore. A desalination plant giving only 10 gallons of water to each person only in the LA area would require at least the entire output of a nuclear power plant 24 hours a day.old Miller spectrum 625 Lincoln SP-135 T, CO2+0.025 wireMiller model 250 and WP-18V torchCraftsman 100amp AC/DC and WP-17V torchCentury 115-004 HF arc stabilizerHome made 4 transformer spot welderHome made alternator welder
