I have the chance to buy a hypertherm 600 for $750. First of all is that a decent price? Has extra consumables. The Eastwood 60 amp is $699 right now. 3 year warranty. Am I crazy for even considering it? I like the idea of the bigger capacity. I will on occasion cut 1/2" plate. Anything thicker I'll grab the torch. Anyone have any thoughts?
Reply:I would buy the Hypertherm. I think that is a reasonable price. The 600 was the best selling plasma before Hypertherm replaced it with the PM45. IIRC they sold 50k+ units. The Hypertherm is just going to be a better quality machine. The torch on the Eastwood(and other import plasmas) with the wire standoff and how the components go together is kind of finiky, and the way the consumables go together in the hypertherm torch is way more straight forward. Also, the cut quality with the Hypertherm will be much better. The consumables are simply designed better, and make better use of the output power.I have used a import plasma right next to a powermax 900, and with the Hypertherm set at 45A it cut faster then the import plasma at 60A, and the the kerf of the finished cut was much smaller and cleaner with the Hypertherm. I have an older powermax 350 I use at home, and with only 25A I can still sever 1/2 plate if I need too.Sent from my S4 using Tapatalk1988 Big 50 Diesel CC/CV1982 Weldanpower 225/2101968 SAE 300 motor generatorMaxstar 200SD2015 AHP 200x"The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so." - Ronald Reagan
Reply:Thanks for your thoughts. I think that I was leaning towards the hypertherm I just wanted a 2nd opinion.
Reply:The Hypertherm 600 is a good plasma cutter, but you have to consider that if it breaks it will be around $1000 to repair.www.georgesplasmacuttershop.comPlasma Cutter and Welder Sales and Repairs--Ebay storeTec.Mo. Dealer Consumables for the PT and IPT torch's
Reply:I have thought about that too. I guess u always take a chance when buying used equipment. I would love a new pm65 but it is out of the budget. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Reply:Stop what ever you are doing and buy that 600 right now if it's only $750.Don't by any thing from Eastwood. Their sales and parts department is so incompetent they couldn't even tell me what power cord plug their welders and plasma cutters use.Get the hypertherm, their are competent and we'll versed in what they sell.I don't have a hypertherm but I wish I did.At work I have an old 3 phase 480v powered Hypertherm 600. Hypertherm still makes parts for them and even offers upgraded replacements. The old torch was shot so we bought an upgraded new one and it works better than new.If that used 600 needs 1000 dollars in repairs it is still a good deal.Last edited by mad welder 4; 04-07-2016 at 07:40 PM.old Miller spectrum 625 Lincoln SP-135 T, CO2+0.025 wireMiller model 250 and WP-18V torchCraftsman 100amp AC/DC and WP-17V torchCentury 115-004 HF arc stabilizerHome made 4 transformer spot welderHome made alternator welder
