Reply:Guess no one ever explained to them the theory of gear reduction and torque multiplication.  I witnessed the aftermath of a guy getting caught in a PTO shaft of a water truck.  He lived but lost his arm at the shoulder.

Reply:First couple of times I saw this video, I could not finish it. It's just horrifying to watch even though he got lucky and wasn't hurt. Just the thought of it made me cringe.
Reply:Seems like all the older machinist guys have their own horror stories. One guy I used to work with used to always tell the story of a petite girl who left the chuck key in by accident. When she started the lathe it whipped around and caught her right in the milk maker. YIKES!. In a shop I was in charge of at the time, I had a guy have his hand slip while loosening a bridgeport drawbar. His hand slipped just right and he hit the on switch. I just heard a loud "BANG" as the wrench spun around and smacked into the motor housing. I was not pleased to say the least, but was happy the wrench stayed on the nut rather than turning into a steel Frisbee and that his hand got out of the way after he slipped..

Reply:When my son was in his machinist school class  years back he had the unwanted show of watching one of his friends in a loose sweat shirt get caught in the milling machine. Needless to say they did not get to it fast enough and it ripped the heart right out of his chest. Never wear loose clothing around any machinery.
