Hello,           I have been in industrial maintenance for the past 7 years, I am good at what I do but am looking to add tig welding to my skill-set. I purchased a Thermal Arc 95s lift tig machine to practice at home. I gave it a try for the first time today and I'm looking for some feedback and pointers on how to do better. please comment, pictures are posted below. Thank You...Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
Reply:Hello and welcome. Best way to get feed back is to post up the picts in it's own dedicated thread vs the intro section, you'll get more views that way. Also you need to post up as much info as possible so we can give feed back. We need to know material used, thickness, amps, tungsten size/type, filler size and type, gas flow etc. The more info you give, the less we have to guess, and the better your responses will be.From what I can see it looks like you were doing Stainless. Heat / gas coverage looks good from the rainbow if so. Fill looks a bit on the light side, but if you were fusing with no filler that might explain what I see. Consistency needs some work, but isn't too bad for someone just starting out. Without good info though, all of this is just a wild guess on my part..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan

Reply:I borrowed some filler rod from a buddy, it was real small in diameter. The material is stainless about 1/8" thick. My argon was set to 15psi and the machine was set at 80amps. I was using the filler, maybe I was moving the puddle too fast and adding too little rod? Thank you for the info on how to post, I am new to this forum thing. Your comments are greatly appreciated. Reply:I think you'll do fine.  Periodically look at your first picture.  The color, the curvature, the fill, that sort of thing.  I'm not a welder but my son does great.  Got his first TIG job with a major corporation before he finished his first TIG class.  He was all about consistent torch height (voltage). Did a lot of repair buildup work on Inconel turbine blades.  (He likes stainless stuff )  But he learned to weld with Oxy/Acetylene.  Like TIG, but clunky and you have to be careful not to set yourself, co-workers or the building on fire.
