I found this SA-200 on a small average single axle trailer.  It belongs to a heavy equipment dealert.  He used in the shop. For some reason? they've decided to use a large MIG unit instead... so it is in the lot of used heavy equipment for sale.  It has a code # 5568 if I wrote it down corectly, it could be a 1965 I would think.   Complete and the shop foreman, Charlie, says it works aok... I read that as running and capable of welding with possible small problems. Location is east of  San Diego a long hours drive... asking price was quoted to me as $1500. I know them well and that could be a better price than you'll get cold over the phone.  I was thinking of it for me, then I got real and said, nope that is not smart... so at least it could go to a WW friend.I will pm the ph# to any member who asks.  Since I don't own it, I'd rather not publish their # on the net.  U R welcome to use my name  Bret from Yuma... but who knows, they may up the price if U doLincoln Power MIG 215Lincoln WeldPak 3200HDLincon ProCut 25Lincoln WeldanPower 225 AC/DCIf all else fails... buy more tools

Reply:......... ?........... "possible small problems".......... ??????OK, the owner has "let himself off the hook" by stating this. If your not a pretty good SA200 mechanic and have to send it to a repair facility..... well, that small problem could cost you more than $1,500 to correct.Examples -- Rebuilt magneto = $300, Continental F-163 motor overhaul $2,100, and the list goes on.... There is a reason they put the SA200 out in the pasture. These people are heavy equipment dealers... Beware.Offer him 12 cents / pound and see what his come back is.Lincoln SA200's... at least 15 - 20. They come and go. Growing partial to the "Short Hoods" in my old age. Last count on Short Hoods was 13 in possession.

Reply:Anyone who isn't mechanic enough to check the thing out prior to purchase and fix what they find afterwards and have done parts price homework doesn't need one. They sell new machines for that market. Thanks to PapaLion for posting the info.
Reply:hobohilton, I appreciate your concerns and the internet is full of scams. This is not one of them.  Often fellas come across gear and post it's general location for others.  Some is from CL for ex. This is a company I have done business with, they do make a profit but generally; I see them as a fair group.  I posted a small warning just so you would use your best judgement, test it, try it out etc before shelling out the dough. I have no financial  interest in the deal.  I would be glad to send you a pm of location as I have for several others.  Since I don't own it, I'm reluctant to advertise it on a website.  SA-200s are far from out to pasture by the way... they sit in  many a pipliners truck and several fabricators here use them regularlyOne reason they are spendy right now is that Saudi Arabia and other places worldwide have a bounty on good ones for their use.ps: Charlie can take apart a D-9 Cat and put it back together for ex... he's a talented dude.  I'd like to get him and Irish together for a li'l rebuild contest. wouldn't that be a showLast edited by PapaLion; 02-13-2012 at 10:18 AM.Lincoln Power MIG 215Lincoln WeldPak 3200HDLincon ProCut 25Lincoln WeldanPower 225 AC/DCIf all else fails... buy more tools

As I read it, PapaLion's acquaintance, the shop foreman who worked with the welder, says that it's "aok" and PapaLiom interprets that to mean that it runs and welds with the possibility of having some minor issues. If someone is interested they can follow through for details, no?What more should one expect in a free lead about an antique welder priced at $1500.00?"This 50 year old machine is in absolute perfect condition and is 100% work-ready in every detail and  will never have any problems whatsoever." Would that do the trick?Yeah, I'm sure that the plan here is to get rich fast in the heavy equipment business, by having Charlie mislead his acquaintance PapaLion, so that PapaLion can set-up some unsuspecting sucker to be "hooked" $1500.00 on an old welder.Come on Hobo.Good Luck
