If I bought the above deburring wheel and cut it into 2" wide pieces  to attach to my grinder which has a 0.75" shaft how would I get it to fit?I know mcmastercarr sells little plastic adapters for small shafts like 1" to .5"basically I need a way to reduce the 3" bore down to about 1" and keeping it somewhat balanced. I don't want a wobbly deburring wheel. any ideas?
Reply:If you have access to a lathe you could machine an aluminum spacer with the correct OD and ID.
Reply:Or you could simply buy the correct item to put on your grinder...High RPM tools and unbalanced accessories are a disaster waiting to happen.  Even if you get this to fit and balance, is the product designed to run at that speed, or will it disintegrate and fly apart.I see "trip to the ER" written all over this for some reason..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:the unbalanced wheels with sloppy bushings are a big safety concern with regular bench grinders, but these deburring wheels are probably 1/10th the mass/weight of a "stone wheel" plus I'm using a 1700 rpm slow bench grinder. At the discounted price I can get this deburring wheel I'll have enough money to buy a lathe and make a true custom bushing/bore, though I'm still searching for a 3" reducer busing (dont' really need a lathe)n . I've yet to find out what kind of macine these deburring wheels fit on. I've never seen a 3" diameter bench grinder axel, it must be some kind of huge industrial machine that maybe deburs production run metal stamping plates? Also I was very surprised to do a search on this forum and see very little talk about deburring wheels. they are awesome for AL metal work, takes the sharp edge off any cut without leaving grind marks. Kind of like a huge scotch bright pad.Last edited by AluminumWelder; 12-15-2012 at 10:41 AM.
Reply:Post a picture of the 3/4" grinder shaft with measurements. It wouldn't take much to make a slide on adapter. You could turn this from wood right on the grinder if you don't have access to a metal lathe.I'd have no concerns running slices of the deburring wheel. It's actually a brilliant idea. Is the shaft long enough or will it require an extension? With the shoulders you'd need 2.5" If you use 1/8th shoulders you'd save a 1/4". The end washer (without the step) could be replaced with a large fender washer made cut from flat material with a hole saw.Is this what your thinking of? Attached Images
Reply:Needs something similar to those rubberized expanding drums like they use for the sanding drums/sleeves.http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?s...KLER&page=1090"The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:I have an 8" OD x 1/2" wide deburring wheel on my bench grinder.  The wheel has a 3" ID, so I had to adapt it down to the smaller grinder shaft.  I made three pieces out of black delrin on the lathe to do so.  The center disk was made to be a slip fit onto the grinder shaft, a slip fit into the center of wheel, and just slightly narrower than the wheel itself.  Then the two side disks are about 3.5" OD and again a slip fit onto the shaft.  Works great and was easier to make as three pieces instead of two stepped pieces.
