A bender like thishttp://www.harborfreight.com/compact-bender-38470.htmlHow can I secure this to the ground or to a stand? My house is a rental and I want to avoid putting holes in the concrete floor. Anyone have ideas?Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:Just get the bench top version and mount it on a bench.
Reply:Mount it on a pallet.  I did that with a manual tire changer and it works very well.  As long are you standing on the pallet it won't shift.
Reply:I've done the pallet thing as well at the shop I used to work at. I've also attached one to either a sheet of heavy plywood or a 2x12 and parked the car on the other side for ballast. I've clamped mine to my plow in a pinch for a quick job and my buddy has his lashed to a column in his shop..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Good idea on the pallet but I don't have a 2 car garage so space is a premium. Also with this bender can you bend Dom tubing ? I am not building a roll cage or anything crazy just curious if I can for little projects.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:There is a whole lot information on this forum and internet about the capacity and modification to that bender.

Reply:Shouldn't be too tough. I've seen them done two ways. 1st is just a single loop. 2nd is where the bracelet is done as two separate parts. For both you will probably want a center die as large in dia as you want the center of the bracelet to be. Then simply wrap the spoon around the center die. You can use several things for a larger die if you don't have access to a lathe or want to weld one up out of pipe. I'd look at just trying to see if one of your existing dies will fit inside a larger dia piece of pipe, or maybe a 3/4" socket. 2nd option would be to "bump" bend the bracelet, where you use a bunch of small bends to form a larger radius. You'll need to keep making adjustments as you go until you match the size/shape you are looking for.I'm betting if you play with this a bit it will all make sense.Good luck..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:i hope i just can not seem to get it . my spoon keeps moving and then my bend gets to big
Reply:Start a separate thread on this and post up picts of how you have the spoon set up. That way we don't completely hijack Gambles thread on mounting his bender. Even if the bend is too large, you should be able to bump bend it to tweak it down in size.A regular spoon should be easy enough to bend with a bending fork or two if need be.Sounds like an interesting Christmas present. I bet if you post up some picts you'll get a bunch of help and suggestions..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Do you have a receiver hitch on vehicle  ?  If so, get some square tube to fit inside and weld to bender upright.  Set the base on two pieces of 3'' or 4'' channel long enough to drive on to and weld together.
Reply:I had one of those cheap chinese harbor freight benders. I was using it to crank out bends on a deadline for one of my customers. Well it of course failed (and I mean bent to heck) right when I needed it most, and I missed my deadline. I decided to buy once and cry once and decided on a quality product. I purchased an American made bender from www.barnonediesel.com  I was initially apprehensive because of the price, but the customer service, and the quality is great. They really stand behind what they sell. YMMV

Reply:DSW-  Thats the 20/20 I think you mean.  Make sure they don't have any left.  I worked there for 12 years and probably sold you that bender.  They kept good stock of extras after they made the switch they had dies with 5/8 holes on them when I no longer worked there, you should call and check.  (719) 676-5555They did go to the larger Pins when they went to the Universal Fabricator.Dan

Reply:Oh, hell no. You'd likely break the thing on 1". Round or square tubing likes to deform when bending anyway. You need dies for round tubes. What you really what is the tubing roller for gentle bends. You need a mandrel bender for 1.5 with any radius under a couple feet. HF has that jack type tubing bender for sharper bends and I've heard you can pack the tube with sand to keep its shape. I see those hydraulic jack benders FS on CL all the time for 50 bucks. They must be next to useless.__________________

Reply:Thanks Dan, you are probably right on the model number. Good chance you sold it to me, I'd have to guess I got it in 2001-2003 some time. Been way too long. I haven't really needed any other dies yet. I've made my own for the most part, but I did look into 1" sq tube dies about 2 years ago roughly for a project for a friend..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Originally Posted by BistineauThere's your answer then. Go buy a truck with a receiver hitch, and make a mount for the bender to go in it. If you are going to do much with welding, a truck is something useful to have. Makes hauling stuff around a lot easier too, bringing home steel for a project or taking a finished project to someone who needs it. Most dealers are having yearend clearance sales now too.
Reply:Originally Posted by BistineauNo it won't. A Corolla can't haul what a truck can, I know I have a Corolla and TWO trucks. Besides, if you get carried away with the bending you may end up rolling the Corolla over or twisting it around in the driveway. Besides, EVERY man needs to have a truck if he does any kind of building of stuff.
