I am looking at a used Commander 500 with 1700+ hrs, Deutz diesel. Any comments???"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:In mid-2005, I bought two low-hour Commander 500s, well under $10,000 for both.   Since, I have more than paid for both, using both, no regrets.
Reply:Thanks jsfab. The saleslady gave a price of $3000.00 AS IS. The mechanic there thinks that is high. Originally he said about $1500.00 to $2000.00 is what he thought to be a fair price. I thought $2000.00 to $2500.00 because I thought the hours were low. He stated the engine is good but how do you determine the condition of the generator and main circuit board? Reply:common failures are the current feedback shunt. Place welder on load bank and check meter reading against a known good clamp meter.excitation feedback pcb. Have to place welder in test mode and compare panel reading against meter reading made from the input wires to the pcb. Can cause welder to not weld right and just turn off and cause the engine to turn off.less common is the cap bank .I think main control pcb can still be repaired. Lincoln may not have many more.shunts and feedback pcb are still available.I know of one guy who was able to recalibrate the feedback pcb and keep his welder working.

Reply:shunt is not to bad, feedback module is pricey. These are common problems I have seen is older c 500sBuilt around 1998. The one your looking at may never develop  these problems. The pcb is sealed but not potted. If the parts are still made they can be repaired.
