I've not really done much stick and have pounds of old rod sitting around (mostly 6011).  So I'm looking at working my way down a bunch of beads.  I keep hearing about using a dunk tank to keep the metal cool.It seems like it would be wet if left in long enough that it won't evaporate water any more.  Do you have to wait for it to dry?  I know it will dry out completely, quickly, as it heats up.  But is there an issue striking an arc on wet metal?AHP AlphaTIG 200DX (2nd Gen)Lincoln WeldPak 3200HD Bird Poop GeneratorLotos LTP5000D Plasma Cutter
Reply:It doesn't have to be completely dry. I just run a rag over it and make sure there's not a lot of running/dripping water on the welding table. You won't notice any difference striking an arc. Damp is ok, puddles are not.Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:That is about what I though.  Just didn't want hard arc starts to something other than my ineptitude.  AHP AlphaTIG 200DX (2nd Gen)Lincoln WeldPak 3200HD Bird Poop GeneratorLotos LTP5000D Plasma Cutter
Reply:If you are running 6011, you should have NO problems with arc starts.Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:leave a vise grip on your practice piece as a handle to dunk in the water and post some pics of your progress.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:I don't know about you guys, but my rod really lights up when its a little wet.If im just layin' beads for the hell of it I don't mind dunking it in a tank, its usually dry by the time I get back to the stinger anyways.
Reply:Just dunk it, count to 3 or 5, and pull it out.  It will be cooled down enough and will dry almost instantly. My name's not Jim....
Reply:You don't have to dunk it for a minute. Leave it steaming a bit and it will dry in a few seconds. No offence intended but some of the questions lately don't exactly require rocket science to figure out.
