new helmet and installing cheater lens

Hello all, just purchased a passive lens helmet, because I was getting tired of having to switch between the welding helmet and the grinding face shield. must say, other than it being a little tricky striking the initial arc. it's really not that bad. in fact, once I get the arc started, I can actually see better than with the auto darkening helmet. I realized that the auto darkening has a green tinted lens which might have impaired my ability to see things clearly.  I've been wearing glasses under my helmet which has also become a pia. so I just ordered a cheater lens for the new helmet. I'm very happy that I made this purchase.

Reply:I purchased the hobart helmet on amazon for $13 with free shipping for a trial of amazon prime. it looks like the old style pipe worker helmet. it has a shade #10 lens and a clear lens.
Reply:for the last 25 years or so i wear both a cheater and my prescription eyeglasses under my passive shield. i use a flip front fibre metal and i put the cheater under a clear lens in the shield itself not the flip part. i believe this gives the cheater some added protection.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla

Reply:Speaking of the glass cheaters, my LWS took forever to special order a #3 plastic cheater. While I was waiting I found a used glass #3.25 on ebay for a buck. They both arrived at the same time and the glass one is better. Reply:I had this same issue for a while and finally got fed up with all those "layers" of plastic between my eyes and the work.  So the next time I bought glasses, I told the optometrist I needed a prescription for some single/near vision, just for welding.  Then I took that prescription and bought some simple, but sturdily built, plastic framed glasses from one of these online stores for about $12.00.  Took the cheater lens out and tossed it.  Problem solved.-RuarkLincoln 3200HDHobart Stickmate LX235TWECO Fabricator 211i
