So the older I get, the worse the eyes get.I have taken to wearing reading glasses.I want to try a "cheater" lens in my helmet. I have an old Fiber Metal 706 (flip up front filter).Where does the cheater go?Does it replace the inner lens that stays down? But this means it will get messed up when I grind or chip slag.I thought it may go behind the filter but the slot is only 1/8" in the flip up visor and I see some of the cheater say they are 1/4" thick (sellstrom from zoro tools).Help ....Thanks ...... Mike
Reply:i have the flip front also and i put the cheater in the shield itself not the flip part and cover it with a clear plastic lens.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:Great! It just shocked me a bit when it said in the advertising that it was 1/4" thick!I wonder if some brands are thinker than others?I like the idea of the clear lens in front so I won't kill it when grinding or with slag. Thanks .... Mike
Reply:Get a prescription for some simple single-vision glasses for your welding work. You can buy them online now for as little as $8, excellent quality. 1000X better than a cheater lens.-RuarkLincoln 3200HDHobart Stickmate LX235TWECO Fabricator 211i
Reply:Yes different brands of cheaters are different thicknesses plastic ones seem to have a thicker borderglass ones that have a plastic border are a littler thinnerI used to put the glass cheater in my Huntsmen slide with the small window...in the part that does not slid. the order would be cheater (close to my eyes), then clear lensthat kept the cheater from getting pitted up when i would grind or weld In my Nexgen Auto-Darkening Welding Helmet with the big window, there was a couple of tabs inside that kept the cheater lens centered. If the cheater was too thick, I would shave a little off the border. As I got older, my eyes changed. At about 35 or so is when I started to use cheatersThey used to start at .25 and go in increments of .25 up to 3.50Now they start at .50 and go in increments of 3.50Im glad I retired before I needed a 4.00I liked to use a glass cheater and a glass safety lens with a plastic cover lens. When I used all plastic, I would see double puddlesI also used cheaters in my cutting goggles.Mike |
