Soooo sick of buying Tig gloves. I got 3 pair of weldporn ones. They are nice. Fit good, comfortable and inexpensive however I have put a hole in the thumb on my torch hand on 2 pairs in the past 3 weeks. The stitching just disappears. Burned the **** out of my hand tonight because I didn't notice it.I have used millers. The older ones they no longer sell were my favorite. The new pair I literally wore a hole in them in less than a weekTillman leather are good but again they don't last me very long. Few months maybe Anything else worth trying ?Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:Are you using Tillman 1350? Those have been the best I have found out of any brand. The Steiner 0223 are nice for small work, very thin and are cheaper, Memphis 49600 have held up good, but again Tillman has them all beat with fit and function.ESAB Rebels 215 and 235, ESAB HELIARC 281i, ESAB ET 301i, Hypertherm 85 and 45XP, Thermal Arc 185, TD 60i, HTP PRO PULSE 300
Reply:The only hand you really need glove for is filler hand...At least that is all I need.....Who sez it has it be a welding glove?....Leather is prefered, yeah....Lots and lots of really thin leather gloves out there, Friend....Thin, thin, thin and fit tite but allow you to finger stuff...Fashion gloves work sometimes better than welding gloves, yaknow?20 year old really thin motorcycle glove I use to Tig weld on filler hand....Yeah, I got the expensive Tillman stuff, but his glove feels mobetter.Last edited by wornoutoldwelder; 04-16-2016 at 08:27 AM.
Reply:Tig gloves by nature do not last that long. In my opinion Tillman makes one of the best gloves out there especially the 24c model. you can extend the life of the glove if you dedicate it strictly to hood time and avoid handling hot metal. another option for tig is to step up to a mig glove. like anything else you will get used to it including proficient feeding of filler.

Reply:Tillman 750M elkskin gloves for me. As they break in and get dirty I wash them. They keep getting thinner until I wear holes into the leather. Some people like the Tillman 850 pigskin but I find hem too thick and slippery.I tried the Tig gloves but they keep heat shriveling until unwearable like you mentioned.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:My last job the only gloves provided were stick gloves and the leather ones with fabric on the back of the hand... THink gardening gloves. I learned to just tig with stick gloves. Like said stepping up to a heavier mig glove might help, That's what I use for everything. Or just be careful about material handling with the tig gloves- Christian M.C3 Welding & Fabrication - CNC Plasma Cutting-Mobile Welding-Custom welding and fabwww.c3welding.com

Reply:It is all only about shielding your hands from intense UV.....filler rods are 36" long, yaknow?A few inches from tig arc is chill country....Thin, thin, thin....second skin thin is good nuff....ladies gloves are good nuff for tig...if pinky get's hot get a tig finger
Reply:I always wear holes through the thumb or fingers on my torch hand on TIG gloves. I pick my gloves based on what I'm welding. If I'm free handing and have to rest my hand on the piece that's going to get hot fast, or it's chrome and needs preheat, I'll try to have thicker gloves with a thick drag patch on the finger and side of the hand. Otherwise I like nice thin gloves that don't have a seam on the inside of the fingers. I hate that. If you want to make them last longer, don't use them as work gloves or handle a bunch of material with them.
Reply:Tillman has so many different styles of gloves to choose from. The 24c's are my tig gloves for stuff generally at home. At school where I usually have to do mig and stick as well as tig on occasion I use 42 mig gloves that are a bit heavier and take more heat. I'm also not above splitting up a set. If the material is hot and I want to rest my torch hand on it, it's not uncommon for me to wear a 42 on my right hand and use one of the thinner 24's to feed filler with. It's not a big deal to me because usually it's the left hand glove with mig that gets used as a rest and wears out 1st, so having a "spare" left hand 42 isn't a problem. With tig the right hand glove is usually the one that gets messed up on work, so the "spare" # 24 will get used eventually as well at some point.I agree that handling hot metal is one of the biggest causes of glove damage. I see guys at the tech school destroy gloves like this all the time. With coupons, we have plenty of tongs to carry the hot metal over to the quench tank. For moving hot stuff that you really can't grab with tongs, I keep a pair of heavy insulated stick gloves dedicated to that use alone. Usually they are cheap pairs because I know I'll cook the leather long before I destroy anything else..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:TIG gloves are thin for dexterity, hence they wear out quicker. That's just how it goes. I like the Tillman 24c myself. Reply:lol Tilman 24c's are truly horrid POS gloves....Tilman doesn't know what a human hand looks like or bends like. Those gloves will explode the palm seam if you grab something push or push against something with an open hand.I have ruined countless pairs of them LONG before holes developed in the fingers. Unfortunately when you're working for stupid people they just buy the cheap gloves that last a few days instead of the good ones that cost <2x more and last a several weeks. My favorites were the old miller tig gloves, revco tigsters T50 are nice too, so much better than 24c's that it's not even funny.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:Maxi flex gloves all the way!!! Just don't touch anything that's been welded recently. Melted the rubber many times from complacenty. I naturally like to hold the torch at the bottom of the handle and feed filler far away so I have no problems with heat. If I do have to hold the torch near the torch head and feed really close to the puddle, I will just use light duty working gloves from home depot. I'm pretty much over all those brand $30+ dedicated TIG welding gloves that fray from just sliding it over heavy millscale or slight rust.Last edited by Jase90; 04-19-2016 at 01:49 PM.
