I just got back from my union's stewards school 2011 and Lincoln had their new SAE300 machine on display there. I looked it all over and ask a few questions to the lincoln reps onsite about it. Here's what I found out. At first glance it looked like a normal old 300d to me. Its got about the same external dimensions (?) and performance specs (?), but it does have a few very interesting differences. The slide control on the big knob, a Perkins diesel engine, and it's pretty new bright red faceplate.Asking the lincoln rep about these differences his said it should making capping a weld much easier because of the slide control. He also said he liked the look of the bright shiny red faceplate. I could do nothing but agree with him.I couldn't help but notice the plastic fuel tank in it now and how it dropped down farther than it used to and I ask him if it now holds 20 gallons? He said no it only holds about 16 gallons he though because the new slide control takes up some room behind the faceplate so the tank isn't as long as it used to be. After looking closer I could see what he ment. That control looked to be about 5" long (?) counting the metal box its in so the fuel tank is shorter than it used to be I guess. It still holds about the usual 15 gals I guess because it dips down farther than it used to. I guess they made it out of plastic so its better than it was before. (?) lolIMO - the new slide control is a plus. A good friend of mine said he tested one of their demo's on his job last fall and it welded good for him right out of the box!!! He found that setting it to about 175 amps put him on 50 on the remote with some good heat. He said he thought it welded better than his own machine. He was sold on it for sure he said. The new machine looks pretty cool with its classic looking bright red faceplate. Its a show stopper no doubts as many pipeliners were looking it over all week. With all the attention to the old redface SA machines lately I can see how this new SAE300's bright Red faceplate will become a top seller for Lincoln for sure. (IMO). It looks really good in my opinion!!!!! IMO, the use of the Perkins 404.22 engine is also a plus. I like Perkins diesel engines and i think they are as good as one can get for a welder, but thats only IMO of course. The machine on display had the Perkins engine so i was glad to see that on their new 300 machine.I did buy a chance or two on their raffle for this machine. To the best of my memory they raised well over $16K for our union scholarship fund with that machine raffle and I was very proud of them for that!!!!! The winner I know will love his new machine. My conclusion:IMO - If you like the 300d then I would say you will love Lincoln's new SAE300. The slide control is going to be a plus in getting the heat set (over the normal gears etc) and the Perkins engine is a great diesel engine (IMO). The new (old style) pretty bright red faceplate is a tremendous plus to the appearance of this new machine in my opinion. Its a pure delight to look at man!!!! The new SAE300 is going to be a big seller for Lincoln I think. All i can say is Good Job man. You've got a pretty machine here for sure. Later guysLast edited by slowhand; 04-10-2011 at 08:15 PM. |
