Sometimes I love stupid people, I got a nice new Milwaukee portaband out of the dumpster because someone either dropped it or threw it. One broken 18 dollar part later I have a new sawBroken sawNew partAll fixedDisclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:Many people have no idea that things are repairable - they seem to think that everything is disposable and/or recyclable.  I have a nice blade edger (for sidewalks, driveways, curbing) that was tossed after it had been filled with 2 cycle gas/oil mix and wouldn't run even with that freshly filled tank of gas.  After some dumping and cleaning, I've been using it for 4 or 5 years...John

Reply:I have quite a few rescues to my credit: a B&D industrial 1/2" drill that needed a new varispeed switch, a Skil 4 1/2" grinder that only needed a new cord and a Homelite weedeater that had the spark arrestor screen plugged w/ carbon. All still working great!! It's amazing what stupid or ignorant people throw away.   Damn Tozz, you scored bigtime w/ that!! Reply:When I was a kid in the 6th grade, there was some sort of trash/recycling place about 1/2 mile from my house.  We'd go there on off hours to scrounge deposit bottles, break TV set glass and whatnot.  Happiest days of my life.  Somewhere around here are a couple silver spoons, ivory dice, civil war era tintype photos and a bunch of political campaign buttons from the Roosevelt era. (like new, with a 5 lb CO2 bottle, flow gauge and about 6 small reels of wire in a case). Reply:got allsorts from being a skip rat, latest find was an sds drill that wasnt working ran multimeter over cable found it had break on neutral near grip one new cable later and got lovely top of range drill.got drill press few years ago that was making noise and running out of true new set of bearings and its still running great.our lass dreads me going to tip as always come back with stuff, went yesterday and came back with a trailer ( trailer was being dumped) full of stuff someone was dumping including an old potbelly stove for in the shop.
